Is Tom Kim's fiery passion a sign of greatness or immaturity on the golf course?

With back-to-back Shriners Children’s Open wins in 2022 & 2023 along with the 2022 Wyndham Championship, Tom Kim has an impressive set of achievements. Tom Kim recently participated in the 2024 Genesis Championship in South Korea. Coming back to home soil, everyone expected Kim to dominate the tournament to grab some vital PGA Tour points. However, the result didn’t go in his favor as he was beaten by Byeong Hun An in the final round play-offs.

It seems that the expectations of the fans and the eventual loss caught up with Kim on the last day of the tournament. After losing the title, the frustrated golfer went to his locker room and ended up destroying property. The ‘unhinged’ Kim ended up breaking his locker’s door at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club. This caught everyone’s attention as there were pictures shared of his disgruntled behavior by @flushingitgolf on X.

Tom Kim went on to apologize for his behavior on his Instagram account. He said that he had ‘no intent of damaging any part of the locker‘ and that he spoke to the DP World Tour executives about it personally. He agreed to pay whatever fine is necessary to repair the damages and considers the matter to be closed.

However, this is not the first time Kim has acted aggressively for his failures. Back in August 2024 during his trip to the TPC Southwind, the South Korean golfer damaged a part of the green when failed the putt. In a video shared by @Top100Rick on X, Kim can be seen making a visible dent in the green with the poster saying that it ‘is near the top of golf offenses.‘ He went on to apologize for his behavior saying that he didn’t think that he could have caused that much damage. He repeated his act of unruly behavior back in September as well when he falsely accused Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay of abusing him. He later went on to apologize to the pros, fans, and PGA for his comments saying that he didn’t realize where the abuses came from and he ‘misjudged’ the situation.
