And today, players including Nelly Korda and Lexi Thompson are taking the level of women’s golf even higher. However, there is another golf star who has had a wonderful career in the sport. Moreover, she recently received a prestigious award that has landed her in the headlines!
Angela Stanford receives the Charlie Bartlett award
Golf fame Angela Stanford has made some remarkable achievements throughout her time on the LPGA Tour. Among her seven professional victories was also the 2018 Evian Championship. And it was her only major championship victory, that too at the age of 40! Stanford has also been the face of the US team six times at the Solheim Cup. Moreover, she’s back this year to play her role as the assistant captain on the field in Spain. However, Stacy Lewis will be leading the team as the captain in the 2023 season.

Other than playing commendable golf, Stanford has also been working to help society. Her Angela Stanford Foundation has been helping young cancer survivors with scholarships since 2012. The foundation also helps the families of those affected by the life-threatening health disorder. It all started after the golf star lost her mother to breast cancer a few years back. Nan Stanford was diagnosed with cancer first in 2009. And after around a decade of the diagnosis and treatment, cancer returned. But this time, she couldn’t fight it!

The professional golfer has been helping people ever since and this is a recognition of her great efforts. And now, at the age of 45, Stanford has been awarded the Golf Writers Association of America’s prestigious 2022 Charlie Bartlett Award. The honor is received by playing professionals for their “unselfish contributions to the betterment of society.”

Talking about her foundation and how she carried things out, she said, if her mother didn’t have cancer, she might have not continued to work toward the noble cause. “I believe the entire purpose of this has been to give people hope,” she said. “I’m incredibly honored to receive the Charlie Bartlett Award. I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent our scholarship recipients, board members, and the community of individuals who continue to support all the families affected by cancer.”
