Is Luke Donald's 'tighter than a drum' character a strength or a weakness for Team Europe?

The 2025 Ryder Cup is shaping up to be a thrilling showdown between the world’s top golfers. The United States team, under their new captain, Keegan Bradley, will be gearing up to take on their European rivals. But even amidst the competition, there’s room for camaraderie and humor. However, as the countdown for the 2024 TOUR Championship began, the skipper shared a funny moment that showcased the lighter side of golf.

When asked about the most fun PGA Tour player to crack open a cold one with, the 38-year-old dropped a surprise name. The ForePlay posted a short video on their X handle, and yes, his answer was pure gold. He noted, ”Believe it or not, Luke Donald.” The sneaky jab at his European counterpart reflects the playful banter that exists between the current captains.

But what came next was even better: Bradley’s candid take on why Donald is the perfect beer buddy. He was quick to add that Donald needs a few drinks to open up. “Yeah, I mean, he’s gotta have a few to open up. He’s tighter than a drum. So, that’s what he needs,” said the two-time BMW Championship winner. Bradley and Donald have a friendly rapport that transcends the competitive spirit of golf.

This was echoed by Smylie Kaufman, who noted the unique dynamic between both. “I do think it’s kind of interesting too, the dynamic of Luke Donald and Keegan Bradley, really good friends, so those two guys have a friendly nature; a good relationship between the two of them, I think, is super interesting,” he said a month ago at the Smylie Show. The observations from the former PGA Tour professional and sports commentator highlight the special bond they both have.

However, it was Bradley who emerged victorious on both occasions. He, along with Phil Mickelson, won a record-tying 7-6 win against Donald and Lee Westwood.
