Athletes dedicate most of their lives to honing their skills for the sport they play. This investment creates an emotional bond that makes it difficult to separate their lives from the sport. And as of recent, the golf world has been hit with multiple accounts of golfers, especially women, retiring early due to personal commitments. Earlier, we saw Michelle Wie West, Lexi Thompson, and many other LPGA stars stepping away, stating similar reasons. West, during an interview, shared, “I really, really wanted to play longer. I really wanted to — especially after having Makenna and her being a girl, I really wanted to play longer. Unfortunately, it’s just I had to make a hard decision with my body.” Now the latest addition to that list — Tiger Woods’s niece, who still cherishes the splendid memories of her career.

Cheyenne Nicole Woods, after completing college at Wake Forest University, started playing professionally in 2012. She had two professional victories under her name — being part of the Ladies European Tour, the LPGA Tour, and the Symetra Tour. Even though the golfer has not retired officially, her priorities have changed after the birth of her first child, Cameron Hicks, in 2022. She has not played professionally since.

For the golfer, parting ways with her profession has left a void, which can be seen in her interview statements. Last year, in 2024, she shared her experience during an interview with Golfweek. She said, “I do miss tour golf, I don’t necessarily miss the travel, but I do miss the competition. I watch a lot of golf. I watch more now than I probably ever have.” She’s had a decade-long career and almost 5 years as an LPGA professional after getting the tour card in 2016. The golfer missing out on the most adrenaline-filled years of her life is evident. However, her impact is still recognized widely.

Despite being away from the course, the golfer is still being awarded for her excellence. Recently, she shared about becoming a Hall of Famer through her Instagram. The post shared the caption, “Wow. Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame! It’s hard to put into words how much this means to me. 18-year-old me would not believe we are here today. I learned so much while a part of Wake Forest Women’s golf, and am forever grateful for my four years in Winston. I will always be so proud to be a DEAC!” The 34-year-old has had a strong presence at the course since her college years. Being a part of the Demon Deacons, she set a school record for the all-time career low scoring average. Additionally, she was also a two-time All-American and three-time All-ACC Championship winner. After 30 amateur titles and four years of college golf, she only then continued as a professional.

Now, with the recognition, it adds another proof to her exceptional career and skill set. However, after prioritizing her family, she had to take a step back from the professional level. But she still finds ways to stay close to a golf course.
