Tiger Woods and Justin Rose have had quite neck-and-neck rivalries on the golf courses. But one of the most iconic showdowns was when Justin Rose reflected on his 2018 FedEx Cup victory, saying, “Yeah, it was awkward out there, really, today.” He went on to share that it was “a situation that I’d never really been in before,” referring to his win over the legendary Tiger Woods.
Despite shooting a 71 in the PGA Tour Championship, which was superior to Rose’s 73, Woods ended up losing his major title at East Lake even after making a comeback after five long years. That day, Rose’s T-4 finish was just enough to clinch the FedEx Cup title and that $10 million bonus. “That’s PGA Tour royalty; if you win the FedEx Cup, that’s sort of what it means,” Rose expressed after claiming the title over Woods. But interestingly, the two rivals have also shared a cute, memorable moment over greens.
In a recent podcast with Dan Rapaport from Skratch, Rose recounted a special moment during the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Woods and Rose were playing together, and during the event, Amy Palmer, Arnold Palmer’s daughter, came to the tournaments with some kids who came to meet Justin Rose. The 44-year-old has been active in charity work and helping unprivileged children, as revealed in the podcast. He, along with Arnold Palmer’s daughter, provides unprivileged children food, organizes events for them, and spends some quality time with them.

That day, the bunch of children had come to meet Rose again, but Tiger Woods was playing alongside him. And even if kids don’t know much about golf, they definitely know who Tiger Woods is. Rose was quick to recognize that. He approached Woods and said, “Hey buddy, can you do me a favor? You hit your tee shot and then give the kids a little hello.” To the 11-time PGA Tour winner’s delight, Woods happily agreed. As Rose shared, “He gave a little wave as we walked past,” and Rose cherished the joy it brought to the kids in that moment. Although Tiger Woods won the event, it was the most cherishable match for Rose.
