Masters has witnessed the best and the worst of Tiger Woods. 1997 was the fateful year when the first roars of the then-22-year-old Woods echoed through the Georgian greens as he won his first green jacket that year. It was pretty evident that the young cub would go on to win more at the Augusta National. And as we all know, he did! four more times. However, over the years, the five-time Masters champion has had to withdraw from the Augusta event more than once, the latest being in 2023.

Mr.T had his eyes set on winning the green jacket one more time. However, looking at the sight of his performance, looks like this year too has been a huge struggle for him to keep up, although he bagged a new record of not missing the cut for 24 consecutive years this time. However, despite his sheer dedication to not withdrawing, he receives enormous wrath from his followers for his game.

Tiger Woods kicked off with a birdie at the 2024 Masters. However, he hit 3 bogeys at the 4th, 14th, and 18th holes in the first round, ending up with a score of 1-over 73. He struck a slightly better round in the second, carding a total of 4 bogeys and 4 birdies with a score of 72! However, it looks like the third round had much worse awaiting him. Tiger Woods hit bogey after bogey and also carded two double bogeys on the 7th and 8th holes.

He demonstrated his worst-ever performance on the greens of any Major event in the round that took place a few hours ago, bagging a score of 10-over 82. Well, it looks like it has been getting frustrating for the golfing community to see all the hiccups that the 48-year-old golfer has been facing on the greens in recent days.

Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, is among the many who share the same sentiment. Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, he wrote, “Enough Tiger coverage!   He’s 90 over and struggling to bend over.  We don’t need to see his every shot.   #themasters”.

Tiger Woods is now tied for the 52nd position on the leaderboard of the Masters 2024 and it looks like this year too. The Augusta greens won’t be kind to him. Even if he manages to do well in the finale, the stakes of which are pretty much impossible, winning the green jacket this year will be out of the question for him.

The golf community agrees with Dave Portnoy

Through the decades of his illustrious career in the world of professional golf, Mr. T has managed to earn an exclusively loyal and, well, huge fan base. However, it is slowly slipping out of his hands. The comments of Dave Portnoy’s post serve as a standing testament to it.

While a lot of the followers have indeed expressed their admiration for Woods, they have also acknowledged that the Masters run is just a rough patch for him. They left comments like, “Absolutely love Tiger. But it’s been a rough, rough day. They may wanna keep the camera off of him until 18” and “I admire his fortitude but have to agree.”

While another, pointed out the frustrating truth of being a golf fan! He stated that following golf means having to deal with constant disappointment because the media does not always cover everyone on the greens. They stated, “Welcome to the golf world Dave. It’s painful and you never get to watch who you want to”

Another follower, with a subtle yet prominent sense of sarcasm, showcases the state of Woods fans. With each passing round, they are hoping for him to hit back, but that does not seem to have happened.

A follower who is enraged with the constant coverage of Tiger Woods, suggests that the media must focus on players who are in contention for winning this year and wrote, “Agreed. Keep it to the ones in contention.”

Another, who has pretty much given up on Tiger Woods making a comeback any time soon, shared a rather pessimistic approach. They wrote, “It’s over folks. Tiger will never win again just accept it. Maybe if he didn’t drive drunk and high on pills he’d be able to still walk. Unfortunately not the case! Show the contenders, not the drunks!” This shows how important it is for Woods to hit back to retain his spot.

Well, it looks like only a miracle right about now can turn around Tiger Woods’s wheel of fortune and steer the path in a better direction. Until then, there is no escape for him from the constant criticism.
