In the realm of professional golf, there are numerous figures to keep in mind, one of whom is the legendary golfer Tiger Woods. Winner of 15 major events, Woods is regarded as the goat on the greens. But does he hold the same status in his real life as well? According to the recent remarks by Hughes Norton, Woods’s former agent, no!
Hughes Norton sat down with the Daily Mail to talk about his new book, “Rain Maker.” Hughes and Woods have been familiar with each other since the latter was just 13 years old. Throughout the 1996 season, Hughes served as the agent for the golf legend, negotiating multi-million-dollar deals with brands such as Nike and Titleist. But the reward the golfer’s former agent got was, sadly, unemployment.
The partnership between the duo ended on a rough note, as Hughes did not seem to get any explanation for him getting fired, despite doing the phenomenal work and getting deals worth $40 million and $20 million from Nike and Titleist. He described the 15-time major champion’s social skills as “maddening” and said that the golfer is very bad at confronting when it comes to anything off-course.

“It is the way he terminates relationships with everyone. Whether it’s girlfriends or his former golf coaches, It’s ironic, really. In a way, he’s so good at confrontation on the golf course. If he’s playing you, he will beat your brains out every single time. But when it comes to confronting things like me and other people that are in his life, he has no social skills whatsoever. It’s maddening, actually,” said the author.
Hughes Norton elaborated that for Woods, “When it’s over, it’s over.” The loss of Tiger Woods came as a consequence for Hughes, since he lost his job at IMG just two months after this incident. Norton’s remarks come days after the golfer’s former caddie, Steve Williams, talked about him in a positive light after sayin that he was treated as a “slave.” Williams said, ““I think we had a bond probably closer than any of the other players I’d carry for, certainly because I was considerably older than Tiger. We just struck a bond that probably I haven’t struck with any other player. So we became very tight, for sure.”
Woods-Williams separation came as a shock to everyone because they shared a bond like friends, and Williams had been there for him through all those struggles. Even the golfer himself said, how “awesome it was to have Stevie for all those years.” Do claims made by Norton about Woods not being good at confrontation true? An incident from the past reflects so!
Is Tiger Woods really not good at facing off the greens?
Apart from that, the relationship between Woods and his former wife, Elin Nordegren, ended tragically, resulting in their divorce in 2010. The two had a very public divorce that lead to a lot of mayhem in their lives. The 48-year-old’s breakup with his ex-girlfriend, Erica Herman tells a tale similar to Hughes Norton’s words.

Herman claimed that she was stranded on an airport. She disclosed that the golfer had asked her to pack bags for a short trip to Bahamas, and when she reached the airport, Woods asked her to speak to his lawyer, and boarded the plane without her. The lawyer then informed her that she would never see the golfer again, and has been locked out of the house, and could not return. The former couple dated for 6 years and Herman termed Woods as “heartless.”
Even though Woods displays exceptional talent on the greens, such incidents might make one wonder! What are your thoughts on this matter? Feel free to share in the comment section below!
