Tiger Woods, Who Dated Lindsey Vonn for 3 Years, Once Gave a Sweet Nod to Her by Highlighting the Courage of Alpine Skiers

Tiger Woods has probably been in multiple relationships, but his time with his ex-girlfriend, Lindsey Vonn keeps surfacing again and again. Vonn was an American World Cup alpine ski racer on the US Ski Team. Her skill in the sport was admirable.How Woods is to golf, Vonn’s name is on the Wall of Fame for Alpine Skiing. However, it was interesting when Woods pitted the two sports against one another and supported Vonn.

Tiger Woods acknowledges Lindsey Vonn’s sport

Woods once made a heartening statement about his then-girlfriend Lindsey Vonn. He compared golf and Alpine skiing based on the level of danger both the sport put the players in. Vonn was an acclaimed skier in Alpine skiing and has won multiple accolades. Woods acknowledged the difference between how intense golf and alpine skiing are and made his statement.

Tiger Woods said, “I’m not going to die in my sport. You know, what they [Alpine skiers] do and the surfaces they’re on, injected snow, it’s just scary how fast it is and how dangerous and how much focus you have to bring to the table. Probably the biggest thing besides that is our sport is about playing a physical chess match that takes time and lots and lots of patience, whereas theirs is just pure aggression.”

As a matter of fact, Alpine Skiing is a dangerous sport when you compare it to the game of golf. Athletes involved in the former have endured severe injuries. Vonn herself has endured many injuries in the past.

According to the Guardian, “Her right knee is permanently damaged. She also has suffered torn ACLs, fractures near her left knee, a broken ankle, sliced her right thumb, a concussion, and more. She’s limited now to about three runs per day, and her aching body can’t handle the workload of other skiers. “

So probably Woods defending Vonn was based on facts. Still, it was considered to be a sweet gesture on Wood’s part.

The wonderful sport that is Alpine Skiing

Alpine skiing is also known as downhill skiing. It is a race between skiers, the mountain, and the clock. Time is an important factor here. While the length of the course, the number of turns, and formats vary by event, athletes must generally navigate a series of alternating red and blue gates down the hill, in order to win.

It is indeed an interesting sport. Both Golf and Alpine Skiing are very different from one another, be it the danger imposed or the technique involved.
