Royal Liverpool Golf Club has been home to 13 Open Championships, including the 2023 one. The golf course is as iconic as it can get. The last time the tournament was staged in Hoylake was in 2014, and Rory McIlroy emerged victorious. In a recent interview with TaylorMade, one of Tiger Woods’ key sponsors, the Golf Hall of Famer shared what he likes about links golf.

“I like the opportunity to be creative. I like the ability to use the ground.” He continued and said that golfers do not get a chance to play in this manner in the States because everything is so “airborne.” He said that “links golf is about controlling the ball on the ground and keeping it out of the air.” The golfer sang praises of the amazing Open venue and how brilliant it is to play on such a course. He said a golfer could hit a putt from 60 to 70 yards on such courses.

2023 has been a slow year for the five-time Masters winner. He participated in the first major of the season, the Masters, and had to withdraw mid-way because of the nerve-wracking pain he experienced because of plantar fasciitis. The golfer then underwent ankle surgery to help him recover from the near-fatal accident he had back in 2022, and amid the recovery, he had to sit out of the 2023 PGA Championship and the 2023 US Open.
