The rain-bound PGA Championship was a double-edged sword for the 156 golfers in Valhalla. While many took advantage of the softened course, half the field could not move forward to the weekend round. The cutline for this year’s PGA Championship was set at 1 under; 78 golfers failed to score the same after the second round, thus exiting the Louisville planes.
One of the biggest names to miss the cut was Tiger Woods. The 82-time PGA Tour winner was playing his third event of the year and first after the 88th Masters. Woods shot two rounds of 72-77 and, with a 6 over 149 score, missed the cut. Surprisingly, many young players who have performed rather spectacularly in the respective Tour too followed the 15-time major champion’s suit.

Ludvig Aberg has found himself inside the top 10 in more than five events on the PGA Tour. Before playing at Valhalla, the Swede was T10 at the RBC Heritage and the solo runner-up at the Masters. However, the 24-year-old recently suffered a knee injury, which, though not bothersome, did affect his game.
Aberg was just one shot away from making the cut as he was T80, even par at 142 after two rounds. Notably, this was Aberg’s first missed cut of the season. Joining the Swede phenom is the recent PGA Tour winner, Peter Malnati. The 2-time PGA Tour winner recently emerged victorious at the Valspar Championship to end the 9 years of winless drought.
The 36-year-old was also just one stroke away from making the cut. Malnati finished his opening with 1 over 72 scores and could have saved himself in round two if there was just one bogey less. He shot 1 under 70 in the second round with four birdies and three bogeys and finished T80 with several others to miss the 1 under cutline.
With Malnati and Aberg, another PGA Tour pro joined the T80 ranks on the PGA Championship leaderboard. With the second-round result, Matt Fitzpatrick has missed the PGA Championship cut two times in a row. Last year, he could not pass the 5-over cutline and this year, a stroke behind the cutline had him miss the Saturday and Sunday rounds.

Out of the top 5 players who missed the cut this year at the PGA Championship, the least expected name was of the 2023 U.S Open Champion Wyndham Clark, who would miss the cut in the major again.
Wyndham Clark misses another cutline at the majors
While playing the 88th Masters, Wyndham Clark took a dig at the LIV Golf players and stated that playing majors might be difficult for them as they are habitual of the 54-hole events and they may miss the cut. That time too, his statements backfired and Clark missed the cut at the Masters.

Coming to the second major of this season, even after an at-par round one, things took a turn for the worse in the second round. The 3-time PGA Tour winner shot five bogeys, including one double bogey on hole 7th, par-5, in a mix of three birdies to finish 4 over 75 to finish T116. The multiple bogeys proved to weigh heavy for Clark’s major dreams in Valhalla.
Finishing a little better than Clark, yet Akshay Bhatia missed the cut. The 2-time PGA Tour winner fumbled in the first round, as he was 2 over 73. In the Friday round, Bhatia shot 1 under 70, but the lack of birdies cut short his run at Valhalla. The 22-year-old was out of the PGA Championship after finishing 1 over 143 at T91.
