And it’s finally happening. After all the high talk about how TGL is the new future of golf, it seems like the league is finally getting a brutal reality check that it doesn’t always go as planned. But what are we talking about? Well, remember how golf fans always trash LIV Golf for pulling in less audience? It seems like TGL has met the same fate.  TGL’s Week 3 viewership took a nosedive, plummeting 32% from Week 2. Yes, you read that right a 32% decrease means that TGL is really losing its fan base which many argue it only had because of Tiger Woods.

The debut of TGL had shown promise, with 919,000 viewers tuning in for Week 1 as Rickie Fowler‘s New York GC was fighting The Bay GC. Week 2 had seen an uptick, with 1,005,000 viewers watching Tiger Woods in action. It seemed like TGL was on the right track, with its unique format and star-studded lineup drawing in audiences. However, Week 3’s numbers were again a major letdown, with only 682,000 viewers showing up. It’s a worrying trend for TGL, especially considering the star power they’ve assembled.

As TGL struggles to find its footing, all eyes are on the next match, which pits Jupiter against Boston GC. Can the league’s heavy hitters which includes Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy bring in the numbers? Woods’ match in Week 2 had shown that he’s still a major draw, but can he and McIlroy carry the league to success? Well, if they can’t get people excited about this match, it’s hard to see how they’re going to turn things around.

Woods’ comments suggest that he’s thrilled with how TGL is shaking things up in the golf world, and he’s excited to be a part of it.

Woods’ pride in TGL is evident in his words, “This is something that golf has never seen before… To have an arena like this and to be able to go out there with great guys, entertain everyone, just have fun. It’s really neat, and it was intimate. I think that’s one of the cool things about it. It’s about entertaining. We had a laugh.”

As the TGL season continues, the excitement is building up for the next matchup. Next Monday, which is January 27, Jupiter Links will be taking on Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf Club which will be making their season debut and fans are waiting with bated breath for the match. Hideki Matsuyama, Adam Scott, and Keegan Bradley round out the roster for Boston, though only three players compete per team.

The probable Woods vs. McIlroy showdown will likely be a ratings improvement, however, time will tell if the rest of the season will be a success given the lack of competitive matches over the first three weeks of the league and other issues.
