We usually hear about players’ greatness when discussing golf. How many tournaments have they won, and how often did they execute the perfect play? Since golf is mostly an individual sport, only the golfer achieves the highest level. However, we frequently overlook the ultimate support behind the golfer on the course: the caddies.

The golf course is the only place where you can see golfers being accompanied by their trusties, who carry golfers’ clubs all around the course. They are the caddies who play an important role in every golfer’s journey. These caddies spend the most time with the golfers and typically provide them with thorough course explanations. As the Ryder Cup is about to take place next week, let’s learn about the top five caddies on Team USA.

1. Tiger Woods’ ex caddie: Joe LaCava

Patrick Cantlay is all set to embark on his second Ryder Cup journey. This time he is accompanying his new caddie, Joe LaCava. LaCava used to handle Tiger Woods bags for 13 years. His journey through the Woods was filled with ups and downs. From the 15-time major champion’s near-fatal car accident to Woods remarkable comeback to the 2019 Masters

Before Woods, LaCava was the looper for Dustin Johnson. However, this year he joined Cantlay late in April after Cantlay had parted ways with his long-time caddie, Matt Minister. “That’s my intention. As long as Patrick will have me going forward,” LaCava said. “I’m saying this kiddingly, if (Woods) could physically carry his own bag, he could win. I think he’s fine without me. We’ll miss each other with the friendship and not seeing each other as we normally would.”

2. Jim ‘Bones’ MacKay

Next up we have Justin Thomas‘ current looper, MacKay. Bones is considered to be one of the best caddies in golf. For twenty years, he was the caddie for Phil Mickelson. But after splitting with Lefty in 2017, Bones became Thomas’ caddie at the end of 2021.

MacKay is grateful to be part of the golf community. “It’s a real fraternity out there. The guys out here are really good humans, and they’re so much fun to be around, and it’s this little adventure. We’re all in this traveling circus. It’s fun to be a small part of it,” said Mackay. Both Thomas and MacKay are having a good time on the field. In 2022, Thomas won the PGA Championship, and for this, he gave credit to Bones’ inspiring yet challenging speech.

3. Tedd Scott- Bubba Watson’s ex caddie

Scottie Scheffler‘s current looper and Bubba Watson‘s previous caddie, Tedd Scott, is one of the best-known caddies in golf. Known as ‘Teddy’, he helped Watson win the 2012 and 2014 Masters. After joining hands with Scheffler, he also gets the credits to help Scheffler win the 2022 Masters.

The majority of people are unaware that Teddy is also a golfer. He doesn’t play golf professionally, but he does have a plus-4 handicap. He has a lot of expertise helping golfers at Augusta National. Watson benefited from his experience in 2012 and 2014, and Scheffler benefited from it in 2022. We’ll have to wait and see how much Teddy helps Scheffler at the Ryder Cup.

4. Ricki Elliott wonderful partnership with Brooks Koepka

Ricki Elliott, the bagman for LIV golfer Brooks Koepka, is up next. Koepka and Elliott began working together in 2013, and since then, they have both enjoyed Koepka’s significant achievements. Elliott assisted Koepka in moving up the golf ladder.

At Oak Hills this year, when Koepka won his fifth major, he paid respect to Elliott. This demonstrated their strong connection. Elliott is also seen offering advice to another competitor about how much knowledge he has of golf. We can’t wait to see Koepka and Elliott hit partnership again at the Ryder Cup since it is the crucial time for Koepka to again gain America’s trust.

5. Rickie Fowler’s current caddie

Ricki Fowler is one of the most dominant golfers in the history of the PGA Tour. This year, he managed to end his three-year title drought at the Rocket Mortgage Classic with his new caddie. In 2022, he partnered with his namesake, Ricky Romano. California native Romano was also a professional golfer. And just like Fowler, he played on the PGA Tour in the early 2000s.

And from 2012 on, Romano started caddying and became a bagman for Aaron Wise, Sung Kang, Ben Crane, and many more. In 2018, Romano had a handicap of +3. With his immense knowledge of the game and ability to read greens, Romano is certainly a good addition to Fowler’s team.

Which caddie and golfer duo will bring out the best result in the Battle of Rome? Only time will tell. But as of now, we can’t wait to see their partnerships on the green once again.
