There is no doubt why Tiger Woods is considered one of the greatest legends in golf. The 15-time major winner has had a remarkable golfing career and has set some incredible records, including his 82-time PGA Tour victory. However, of late, the golf great has seen more of his records broken than made, and in 2021, yet another record was broken, surprisingly by LPGA great Jin Young Ko.

Ko currently sits atop the women’s Rolex ranking chart at the No. 1 spot, and her record-breaking incident of 2021 proves exactly why she earned that spot. At one of the LPGA’s biggest events that year, she put on a splendid show on the greens, breaking Woods’ record from back in 2006!

Ko’s record-breaking instance came at the CME Group Tour Championship two years ago. The CME Group Tour Championship is the LPGA’s season-ending event and sees a multi-million-dollar purse every year. And in 2021, at the event, the world No. 1 set an incredible record by hitting consecutive greens stretching across more than 3 rounds!

That year, not only did Ko go on to win the event, but she also hit 63 greens in regulation. Her last green miss came at the 9th hole during the first round on Thursday. However, after that, she didn’t look back. Her streak started on the tenth hole, and she went on to hit the green at every hole that followed until the 18th hole of the final round on Sunday.

Koe finished the event with 24 birdies and just one bogey. This feat was remarkable in itself; however, to add to its brilliance, the LPGA great was playing through a wrist injury that week and hadn’t even practiced for the tournament! Golf Digest recently took to Instagram to pay homage to this feat of the world No. 1 and wrote, “Never seizes to be impressive. 👏 By the way, Tiger’s career-best streak was 37 (2006) “.

In the Instagram post, we can see a picture of the South Korean golfer and Mr. T. The caption points out how Ko’s record was stunningly more than 1.5 times that of Woods, which, as per Golf Digest, came in 2006, when Woods was playing at an event and hit 37 continuous greens in regulations.

This, of course, was only one of Woods’ impressive records. Over his nearly three-decade-long career, he’s gone on to set quite a few records. Arguably his best, which many believe will never be replicated, was the Tiger Slam, which came in 2000–2001.

A look at Tiger Woods’ impressive continuous major run

Back in 2000, Woods won the Open Championship, the US Open, and the PGA Championship all in the same year. While that is impressive, in the year that followed, Woods won the Masters. This not only made him one of the few golfers who had even won all the majors, but it also made him the only golf pro in this century to win all four continuously in a row!

This achievement went on to be known as the Tiger Slam, in honor of his achievement. Since the golf legend achieved it, no one else has come close to replicating it, with golf pros not winning more than two majors in a single season.
