While the majority of golf enthusiasts and industry insiders are only aware of this partnership, many are unaware of Nike’s very first golf collaboration.
A recent post by Hypegolf on Instagram has revealed who the first Nike golf athlete was. It was none other than the legend, Seve Ballesteros who first represented the brand at the 1986 Masters. The post also gave away how and what Ballesteros wore at the Augusta National. The caption of the post read: “A little known fact is that Seve Ballesteros was the first Nike golf athlete, representing the brand at the 1986 Masters Tournament. That’s where he wore the double Swoosh, a last-minute improvisation to cover up the logo on the Augusta National visor that Ballesteros bought in the pro shop.”

Ballesteros and Nike have a history together. In the 1990s, the late Spanish golfer promoted Nike’s golf equipment. Ballesteros closely collaborated with Nike’s golf division to create and market golf equipment, including clubs, balls, and clothing. Both Nike and Ballesteros’s reputations in the golfing community were enhanced by the relationship.

His sponsorship became one of the most recognizably successful ones in sports history as a result of it. The business produced a line of golf accessories and apparel featuring the names and likenesses of Hall of Famers.
