Tiger Woods has the most incredible golfing career among all the active professional golfers in the world. With his 100+ title wins worldwide, including 15 majors, the golfer had the golf world under his fist in his prime years.

Although a golfer wins his titles with his hard work, his caddy’s help is also an inevitable part of that victory. And Steve Williams, Woods’ caddie for 12 years, had helped him win most of his championships, including 13 majors. While caddying for such a champion looks good on paper, Williams revealed that it is not an easy job.

Williams revealed his struggles and the pressure he had when he was caddying for Woods in BBC Sport’s ‘All About: Tiger Woods’ podcast.

Tiger Woods was no ordinary golfer!

“I felt a tremendous amount of pressure caddying for Tiger,” Williams said. According to him, some golfers were happy being in the Top 5; however, it was not the case with Woods. “If he doesn’t win, he’s not happy, and when you get certain lengths of time when he’s not winning,” he added. “It’s a tough job because you’re feeling the pressure.”

Steve Williams was inducted in the Caddie Hall of Fame in 2014. He has helped golfers win 14 majors throughout his career. Notably, he has caddied for the golfing legends Greg Norman and Raymond Floyd before joining Woods in 1999. Yet, he believes being with the 15-time major winning champion has given him more pressure than any other player that he’s been with.

Woods won four majors in a row, which nobody has ever done, and Williams was his caddie back then. According to his long-time caddie, he was under a lot of stress while the golfer competed for the Masters, the fourth major to complete the record.

An ambitious caddie for the ambitious golfer!

Jack Nicklaus has won 18 majors in his career, a record that is still unbeaten. As a young golfer, Woods wanted to beat it; interestingly, his caddie wanted more than that.

“Tiger wanted to get to 20. I said 21 is my favorite number, so let’s make it 21,” Williams talked about the conversation he had with the golfer. Notably, Williams only got to assist Woods in winning only 13 majors before the golfer fired him for an unknown reason in 2011

With his injuries and other factors, Woods wasn’t able to beat Nicklaus’ record. Although he still plays, winning another three or more majors, with his existing health issues, is highly unlikely.
