In the 2023 TOUR Championship that ended on Sunday, Fleetwood finished in the 6th position. He settled for a score of 11-overall-under 272. Meanwhile, Hovland took the top spot, scoring a glorious 261(-27). Fleetwood had much to say about the latter as he took part in the post-round press conference.

The 32-year-old agreed to the fact that the Norwegian golfer had really improved his game in the chipping area. Tommy was quick to add how not anybody can be a “finished package” at the age that Hovland is in. He pointed out how the golfer is “showing how good he truly can be” while “going from strength to strength.”

He brought Tiger Woods into the conversation, who had made a name for himself when he was very young. The American golfer had won his first major tournament when he was just 21 years old. He went on to win the rest of them in the next three years. Thus, he became the youngest to win the Masters and also to have won all four championships, a feat which none has broken.

Making the comparison, Fleetwood praised Hovland for the improvement he had gone through. Even as the Norwegian scripted his name into the history books, it wasn’t enough to beat Tiger Woods in his game.

Tiger Woods and some of his unmatched feats

In an unsurpassed record by the greatest ever to play the sport, Tiger won his first Masters Tournament in 1997. He finished with a score of 270(-18). The golfer won the major with the largest victory margin in the year 1997.

Many A-listers in the current golf arena, including Hovland, will not surpass the two feats. They have passed the age that the GOAT achieved those in. It would take a much younger face to beat Tiger in his game. Until then, he is the uncontested king.
