Tiger Woods nearly won a trophy after 1881 days! The 2024 PNC Championship was an action-packed affair that saw many legends rise up to the challenge. The likes of Vijay Singh, Padraig Harrington, David Duval, and many more fought tooth and nail until the final minute.
However, the stars of the show were clearly Team Woods & Team Langer. Both of the greats, Tiger Woods & Bernhard Langer seemed to be in amazing form as they played out the 36 holes and more for the 2024 PNC Championship. Their sons, Charlie Woods & Jason Langer provided vital support with the former scoring the 1st ace of his career and the latter matching the feat with a breathtaking eagle of his own.
In the end, Team Langer overcame the odds and beat the favorites, Team Woods to reclaim the title. But the event didn’t stop making news as soon after their loss, Tiger Woods & Charlie Woods were interviewed about what transpired at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club. While the famous father/son duo seemed ecstatic about the experience and having come so close to winning, it was the GOAT’s statement towards the end that surprised the fans the most.

When asked about how he was feeling after performing so well in the tournament, Woods replied by stating that he was still not ready for competitive golf. He further added that it was the scramble format that helped him play so well, but he is still not fit enough to be able to compete at the highest level yet. This surprised fans, commentators, & the entire golf community as there was a common belief that Tiger Woods looked like he was in the best shape he had been in the past few years. Nonetheless, rumors of him making a comeback sooner were quickly put to rest to the disappointment of the fans. This is not the first time Tiger Woods’s injuries have broken the dream of his fans. Let’s take a look at the top 5 times the 82x PGA Tour winner’s health scares have disappointed his fans.
The Genesis Invitational illness
Midway through the first round of The Genesis Invitational back in February 2024, Tiger Woods seemed to be a bit uneasy. Right after hitting the tee at the 7th hole, the 5x major winner withdrew from the tournament raising a lot of concerns among the fans. Speculations arose about injuries on his leg, back, ankle, or foot causing discomfort, but that was not the case. The reason Tiger Woods withdrew from the tournament was because he showed flu-like symptoms. While it may have disappointed his fans, considering the condition of his body in recent years, the precautionary measures seem understandable.

The confession before the Masters
“I hurt every day,” said a somber Tiger Woods during his pre-tournament press conference before the 2024 Masters Tournament. Being a 5x winner at the Augusta Nationals himself, Woods had always believed that he still had at least one more green jacket left in him. But considering the state of his entire body, it would be an uphill battle for the 82x PGA Tour champion. Woods did admit that his surgically fused right ankle is not an issue anymore, but as everyone in the golf community knew, that was only a part of the problem for the legend.
The back surgery in September
After months of struggling to keep up with the pain and torture, Tiger Woods finally went under the knife to get treated for his hurtful back. His 6th surgery on his lower back in the past 10 years required him to take a long break from the course and go into complete rehabilitation. And so he did as there were no signs of Tiger Woods anywhere near a professional tour for around 3 months before he made an appearance at the press conference for the 2024 Hero World Challenge.
Tiger Woods: the host, not the player
The 2024 Hero World Challenge was supposed to mark the return of the GOAT on the golf course. Many fans were anticipating Mr. T to line up with the likes of Scottie Scheffler, close friend; Justin Thomas, Tom Kim, and 16 other competitors at the Tiburón Golf Club in Naples. However, before the event even began, Tiger Woods announced that he was not going to be participating in it. The news of his withdrawal didn’t come as a surprise considering his surgery a few months ago, but it still upset those who were looking forward to watching him play again. Speaking in the pre-tournament press conference, Woods clarified that he is not yet healthy enough to play in an individual tournament. But he did confirm that he will be participating in the father/son scramble event with his son Charlie Woods a few weeks later.

Another revelation at the Hero World Challenge
Not that long before the event, Woods had claimed that he is progressing towards playing at least one event a month from next season. However, during his pre-tournament press conference for the event, Tiger Woods had also given an update about what things would look like moving forward. The 3-time Open Championship stated that with the way that his body is at the moment, he is not sure if he will be able to fulfill a promise he made a few weeks back. This shocked a lot of fans who were hoping to see Tiger Woods play more often from next season onwards.
Everyone in the world of golf wants Tiger Woods to play and win a lot more. But fans, players, & associates know that the physical condition of the GOAT might limit his capabilities on the course. But if he is able to perform as well as he did in the 2024 PNC Championship, there is no doubt the 82x PGA Tour winner will be able to get his 83rd win in the near future.
