Over the span of a decade, Tiger Woods transformed from a prodigious talent into a global golfing icon. However Marks O’Meara knew the golfer before he became the legend that he is today. His first encounter with Woods was when he was 17 and later when the legend turned turned pro at 19, when O’Meara was 39.
A rather interesting dynamic emerged as O’Meara was tasked with looking after the young golfer in Orlando, Florida. He did take care of him and his number was at the 15 times major winner’s disposal. He said “later he became lil brother for those 10 years.”
This very rapport with the Major Champion would lay the foundation for a partnership that would shape O’Meara’s trajectory in the golfing world. O’Meara also happened to see the potential in Woods way before anyone else did.
“You know when you’re around someone that’s so gifted you know there is something special brewing here,” Mark said.
Elevating Performance and Perspective for Tiger Woods
O’Meara believes that Tiger Woods played an instrumental role in him securing two major victories. The golf GOAT’s performance pushed him to do better. He said, “I might not have won those two majors at 41 if he had come into my life.”

He was at a point in his career where all his peers were younger and he felt like he lost the zeal. Then came in Tiger Woods, his relentless pursuit of excellence and his drive to push boundaries became infectious and a source of motivation for O’Meara.
He then opened up and said “But I do believe being around him. And you know, him pushing me a little bit certainly helped.” Hence, Tiger Woods and Marks O’Meara show us all that sportsmen continue to inspire each other. They all motivate each other and push each other to do better!
