The Swedish golfer was asked a set of interesting questions in the course of the press conference, ranging from his preparation plans for the Ryder Cup in Rome to his childhood golfing inspirations and golfers in the 1990s that he looked up to.

Without hesitation, Adberg acknowledged the prowess Woods had on the course back in his day. “I think the main guy when I grew up was obviously Tiger because of what he did for the game, just the pure dominance that he had.” However, his response didn’t get over there.

The Ryder Cup rookie continued to emphasize that the true source of inspiration for many Swedish golfers, including himself, was Henrik Stenson, whom he described as “a big deal for us.” Adberg went on to highlight how Stenson’s remarkable success on both the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour served as heavy motivation for him.

The young Swedish golfer candidly admitted that the Swedish veteran was his idol. He stated, “He’s probably the one that I looked up to the most.”  The young golfer has come a long way from just looking up to other golfers. Now he himself is undoubtedly a source of inspiration for many, especially with him finding his way on the 12-player European Team for Rome!

Adberg’s path to the Ryder Cup spotlight

The Ryder Cup team captain has trusted Adberg with a lot of responsibilities on his young shoulders. He is one of the only golfers to be selected without any major achievements to his name and the only golfer to make it onto the team without a single major championship appearance!

The rookie will be making his debut at the prestigious face-off this year through his controversial captain’s pick spot. Despite his rookie status, though, he has recently showcased exceptional golfing skills with a victory on the DP World Tour at the Omega European Masters, which further strengthens his credentials.
