Tiger Woods honoring his dad's legacy—Is this his greatest achievement off the golf course?

Tiger Woods‘s name is known in the golf world for 82 PGA Tour wins and 15 major titles and is easily considered the GOAT in the community. However, the wonders of this 48-year-old golfer aren’t only limited to his achievement on the greens, but off the greens as well.

While Woods was just nine years old he made a simple seven-word promise to his father Earl saying “I’m going to be professionally excellent,” as revealed on his website. One might think that he has already done it considering his achievements on the Tour but that’s not what Tiger Woods meant. The golfer is currently the founder of the TGR Foundation, which he and his late father, Earl Woods, established in 1996.

They envisioned the foundation as a way to support the health, education, and welfare of children across America. Guess what? He has done it. Recently Woods shared on Instagram, “I’m proud of the work my @tgrfound is doing to help kids chase after their dreams through our TGR Learning Labs and national education programs. Thank you to everyone who supports our work and makes the impact possible,” fulfilling the promise he made to his father.

The foundation’s main goal is to provide educational opportunities and resources to underprivileged communities, with a particular emphasis on STEM education (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Thanks to that, around 190,000 students will benefit from this great initiative, as per reports. While appreciating this initiative, Cyndi Court, the CEO of TGR Foundation, said, “I think Tiger’s stats are as impressive off the course as they are on the course.”

The CEO’s main responsibility is to broaden the organization’s educational programs in under-resourced communities across America. At the same time, Woods will generate funds through various golf events he organizes, such as the Hero World Challenge, the Pebble Beach Invitational, and the Tiger Jam entertainment and golf event in Las Vegas. Thanks to their efforts, there are various education programs available for the students.

What are the student programs available at Tiger Woods’s TGR Foundation?

There are TGR Learning Labs located in locations like Anaheim, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. These training labs are a network of educational centers that offer STEM programming, mentorship, and internship opportunities to high school students. Then there is the Earl Woods scholarship program, which focuses on first-generation scholars and provides them with a comprehensive scholarship program to thrive in school and life.

The TGR Foundation also provides college access for students interested in higher education to pursue post-secondary education. Interestingly, 88% of students are already interested in pursuing higher education. However, if a student wants to enter the job sector instead of pursuing higher studies, there is career-oriented learning that will help them learn the skills to excel in the job market.

They also have a digital resource library that provides complete access to the computer and internet for the students in grades 6–12 to help them with decision-making and problem-solving skills. Surprisingly, the foundation isn’t only limited to students, as they have an educator development program as well. It provides the opportunity to help educators across the country support their students.
