Hank Haney is well known for the six years he spent training Tiger Woods nearly two decades ago. The legendary trainer is also often in the spotlight for his controversial statements and outspokenness. Recently, Haney once again voiced his bold opinion. He called out the OWGR officials, standing up for Cameron Smith, for not getting what he deserved.

Hank Haney stands up for Cameron Smith

Haney called out the Official World Golf Ranking to put a point across to them using Cameron Smith as an example. He wrote, “Just think, in a couple more months Cameron Smith will be ranked 50th in the OWGR.” The trainer frustratedly stated, “If you call yourself the Official World Golf Rankings then figure out how to rank the best players in the proper order.”

Cameron Smith jumped ship in August and joined the Saudi-backed league; ever since then, he’s not been eligible for ranking points for playing in LIV Golf events. He also faces the same ban as the rest of the golfers and is not allowed to participate in the PGA Tour or the DP World Tour.

Smith still ranks 3rd in the world, thanks to the spectacular season he had before leaving the PGA Tour. He recently played on the PGA Tour of Australia, where he collected yet another win at the 2022 Australian PGA Championship, adding to his long list for the year.

Smith will not be able to hold onto his high rankings for very long unless LIV Golf is approved soon for OWGR points. Unfortunately for Cam that doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon. Do you think LIV will ever be accepted by the OWGR? And if so will it be too late for legends like Cam by then?

Woods and Haney began their journey together early in 2004, and the duo stayed together for over six years. During that time, Woods started 93 times on the PGA Tour, and he won 31 of them. The golf legend had a 33.3% winning percentage during the time he spent with Hank.

However incredible that sounds, that’s not the end of his achievements during that time. He won six of the 23 majors he competed in. Woods, just within that period, had more Tour wins than all but 13 players in the game’s history. He also had more major wins than all but ten players.
