The PGAT 2024-25 season has finally kicked off with the Sentry 2024. Past event winners are duking it out to reach the top spot in the tournament. However, missing from the event is Tiger Woods. Technically, the legendary golfer can’t play at the Sentry because he isn’t qualified.
However, this has given Victor Hovland a chance to break his record. If the Norwegian golfer plays his cards right, he can match or even surpass a record made by the 48-year-old. But for that, he would have to bring out his prime performance in the Sentry 2024.

On January 4, the first round of the Sentry event began at the Kapalua Resort (The Plantation Course), Maui, Hawaii. And one of the players starting was Viktor Hovland. With his start, the Norwegian golfer has increased his chances of breaking the record of Tiger Woods.
Happy New Year!
This week, Viktor Hovland could become just the fourth player in the last 15 years to win three consecutive PGA TOUR starts.
The others?

Rory McIlroy (2014)
Dustin Johnson (2017)— Sean Martin (@PGATOURSMartin) January 1, 2024
If he wins the event, he will become the fourth player to win three consecutive PGA Tour starts. He won the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba in 2022 and the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday in 2023. Apart from that, the Norwegian golfer also won the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship in the last season.
The other players to win three consecutive PGA Tour starts are Tiger Woods (2008), Rory McIlroy (2014), and Dustin Johnson (2017). The Irishman can match this record as the American golfer is not qualified for the event. The 48-year-old is missing because he doesn’t play as much as he used to a couple of years ago due to his injury.
When will Tiger Woods compete in the 2024 season?
Last month, Woods made a comeback at the Hero World Challenge but at the time he mentioned that he would play 1 tournament a month. His first start might come on the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club on February 13, a 72-hole tournament that he hosts.

Despite making only five starts in official PGA Tour events from the past two seasons, Woods has an exemption into the Players Championship. His fifth Masters victory in April 2019 earned him a five-year exemption into the Players.
While golf fans may be disappointed that the 48-year-old is dropping out of multiple tournaments, fans of Hovland would want him to match Tiger Woods’ 15-year-old record. Do you think Hovland will be able to match the record? Let us know in the comments section below.
