The start of 2024 is a horrific one for Tiger Woods! He had a score of 1 over 72 after the first round of the 2024 Genesis Invitational, the event he hosts. To make matters worse, he had to be led out in a golf cart in the second round. The reason? He developed symptoms of the flu during the sixth hole of the second round.
Now the 48-year-old himself has come forward to give the actual reason why he withdrew from the event he hosts. In a post on X, Woods said, “I would like to confirm that I had to withdraw from the Genesis Invitational due to illness, which we now know is influenza.” However, the American golfer added he is now resting and feeling better than before.

He also expressed his disappointment at not being there for his first event of 2024. But he wished good luck to the people competing and wished fans would support the event.
Tiger Woods had an eventful day at Riviera
The 48-year-old has now confirmed he will not be partaking in the event he hosts. This also dims the chance of him appearing in the booth for the Genesis Invitational. Although the two days he spent on the greens were quite eventful. Tiger Woods started his day by showcasing a new Sun Day Red outfit. But eagle-eyed fans spotted him wearing Nike again! He was wearing Nike socks inside his Sun Day Red shoes. But fans were not ready for what happened after.

He was playing to cut into the weekend’s rounds, with the projected cut line around +1. Woods had a score of +1 after the sixth hole. But before anything could happen, he left the course in a cart with the officials. Following that, an ambulance was spotted arriving at the gates of the Riviera Country Club!
While the 48-year-old claims he is feeling better, it takes over 2 weeks to fully recover from influenza. This means he can opt-out from playing in March, focusing all his energy on the Master Tournament at Augusta Nationals. But he can also play in other PGA Tour events.
