Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy came up with a new league for the golf world. The TGL is going to be a team golf league to be held at the SoFi Center and is all set to launch on January 7, 2025. But did you know this comes after a delay of a year? Initially, it was all ready and was set to launch in January 2024. But in November last year, a power system failure at the event’s custom venue caused the domed roof to deflate, leading to severe damage.
Thankfully, no one was injured as confirmed by TGL in a statement. On Monday after the incident, TGL announced the decision to postpone the event following discussions with its six teams, players, the PGA Tour, presenting sponsor SoFi, media partner ESPN, and Palm Beach State College, the facility’s location. “This decision came after reviewing short-term solutions, potential construction timelines, player schedules, and the primetime sports television calendar,” the statement said.
“Despite this new timeline for the venue, we remain excited about the future of TGL and will continue to build excitement between now and the start of the season with our players, fans, and teams. We have begun to update plans and timelines and are confident that the extension will only improve our delivery.” Now that the league is actually about to launch in less than a month, they made sure that they paid their tribute to the storm that taught them so much.

The TGL will be hosted at the new SoFi Arena in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. It is a custom-built venue on the campus of Palm Beach State College, which has a virtual course and a huge simulator screen. This screen will help in long shots and also the custom-built short game called the Green Zone. Players hit from real grass, fairway, rough, and sand for long shots toward a virtual screen. For shots within about 50 yards, the action shifts to a real-life short-game complex with adaptable features. The first thing you will notice about the Center at this moment is the screen, which is five stories high.
You can almost hit it with a tee shot. It is one of the most important parts of the league and has created a buzz in the golf world. It is nearly 24x larger than the regular simulator screen, and the players look tiny in front of it. The actual size of the screen is 53’x64′. This screen will ensure that the golfers have better vision while playing the various customized holes of TGL and also that the fans can see it and enjoy it as proper golf. The screen zone will be present in front of the simulator screen, which will have three sites. One on the ground for teeing, then there is a sand bunker site, and finally the rough.
This will turn the entire golfing experience into a digital one, and the fans can’t wait to witness it! Are you excited for the league to finally kickstart? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
