The 15-time major champion, Tiger Woods, recently arrived at the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills, where he won the last major which was held over there, the 2007 PGA. Woods had won the PGA Championship four times and thus has his name on the Wannamaker trophy.

Woods made a modest return to golf at the 2022 Masters, after spending nearly 17-months recovering from a car crash he suffered in February 2021. There, he shot an opening round of -1 and then made the cut.

However, Tiger Woods is currently ranked 818 in the Official World Golf Ranking since he did not play for over a year before the Masters last April owing to his injury due to the accident. He stands a chance of reaching an all-time low of 899 but can salvage his record with a win. However, that is easier said than done.

According to the New York Post, Woods looked visibly stronger than he did a month ago. He also hit shots effortlessly and showed no signs of laboring while walking on the golf course.

Notably, there he told reporters, “I’ve gotten a lot stronger since the Masters. We went back to work on Tuesday (after the Masters). Monday was awful. I did nothing and Tuesday was leg day. So, we went right back after it. We started ramping up a week or so ago, played a little bit more golf, and it was good. Everything is better.”

Woods and his history of injuries

Tiger has had a plethora of injuries in his golf career. From 2014 through the end of 2017, Tiger played in only 24 tournaments due to his troublesome back and went through three microdiscectomy procedures at that time which kept him from playing regular golf. When he attended the Champions Dinner at Augusta National, during the Masters week in 2017, he allegedly told a few members of the Augusta National Golf Club that his playing days might be over.

But then two weeks later, he had an anterior lumbar interbody fusion surgery which was performed by Dr. Richard Guyer of the Center for Disc Replacement at the Texas Back Institute. After that, he worked on his body and game, and in 2018 played in 19-events where he contended in two majors, and finished t-6 in the Open Championship and runner-up to Brooks Koepka in the PGA Championship.

Then in 2019, he won the Masters for the fifth time; his 15th major win. To date, it is remembered as the greatest comeback in sports history.

As Tiger Woods is close to his worst OWGR ranking, which is 899, a win would certainly help him climb up the rankings as the winner of the championship will get 100 OWGR points.
