According to the National Cancer Institute, one in eight women in the US battles with cancer at some point in her life. The crawling disease sometimes comes back. Cal coach Nancy McDaniel is dealing with cancer for the second time in her life and to give her the emotional support her colleagues have dedicated this year’s Stanford Collegiate’s Play for Her campaign to her.

Stanford Collegiate is a renowned event and has players like Tiger Woods who played at it. 

The golf community united to fight against cancer

Nancy McDaniel is the head coach for women’s golf at the University of California. Prior to that, she had played on various professional tours in her five-year career. She won the Players West title in 1992 at the Las Vegas Classic and the LPGA Sectional Qualifier the same year. McDaniel has been part of the LPGA Teaching Division for 18 years. 

The veteran golfer was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 after becoming cancer-free in June. She got hit with another news, days later, that the cancer had attacked her stomach. In Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Nancy wants the women to understand the importance of health and be aware of what they intake. 

To show their respect and highest gratitude to McDaniel and her years spent at Cal sports, this year’s Stanford Collegiates fund was dedicated to her. Beth Ann Nicholas, Golf Week Seniors Writer through her X account (formerly Twitter) too shared with the world how a sport that makes powerful communities can impact people’s lives immensely.

The fund has incurred $265,000, which will go towards Nancy’s oncologist’s cancer research.

In this time and age, a powerful community can unite and fight even the most terrible diseases. We wish that Nancy would overcome the cancer and beat its butt! 

The Play for Her campaign gets help from WGCA

The Play for Her Campaign dedicates its funding every year to different individuals. This year the event was sponsored by Dr. Condoleezza Rice, who also lost her mother to breast cancer. Condoleezza is the director of the Hoover Institution and the 66th Secretary of State.

A recent update shared by Beth confirms that the time for donations was extended further and with the help of Women’s Golf Coaches (WGCA), the fund has raised an additional $9,290. The donations will help in fighting cancer better and stronger!
