Tiger Woods is undoubtedly one of the best golfers of all time. In the 27 years of his career, he’s gone on to win 15 majors and is regarded by many as the undisputed GOAT on the fairways. Even on the Internatonal front, the golfer has fared fairly well.

In his history of eight Ryder Cup appearances, he bagged 14.5 points out of 37 matches played. However, he’s only ever grabbed the trophy once in his lifetime. Thus, the controversy began on Reddit with a photo of the G.O.A.T. in his USA Ryder Cup uniform. The photo was one where he had a face of disappointment.

The picture was uploaded with a comment in which a fan posed a question to other golf enthusiasts. He asked, “Guys, honest opinion needed—is Tiger Woods not making it to the Ryder Cup actually good for Team USA?”

This, of course, attracted a series of comments. While many were expecting to see people jump in to defend the 15-time major winner, the reality of it all was far too harsh. Many stood against Woods on the question, in turn, claiming his absence to be a blessing in disguise for Team USA.

With the one question that was asked, the debating chain began. One fan questioned the relevance of the question. He pointed out that Woods was “injured” and that it was impossible for him to play a round of casual golf, let alone make it to the team for the Ryder Cup. The same fan, however, went on further to question the golf legend’s caliber by saying, “Who in their right mind would think he’s anywhere in the same ballpark as the 12 best American players at this moment?”

Other fans shared the same sentiment. One fan dragged in the great Jack Nicklaus’ name as well, claiming that even though he was the best of the best at one point, his time has passed. “Fellas, real talk: we all love the Golden Bear but Jack isn’t a top 12 golfer right now.” Yet another brought into question the last time Woods was seen “swinging a club at the Ryder Cup.”

Another fan’s argument, however, struck out. He made the strongest defense of the 82-time PGA Tour winner’s absence as a blessing in disguise for the team. He pointed out that Woods is an individualistic player who is “better on his own.”  “Not everyone vibes with team play,” he added.
