Tiger Woods has 82 professional wins which also include his 15 Major wins. The numbers depict his success and considering his decorated resume, Woods must have a habit of winning. But what would the golf legend do in case he loses? Well, apparently Tiger doesn’t take a loss very well. We take a trip down memory lane at the 2005 US Open when an anguished Tiger Woods acted sore in defeat.

The 2005 US Open was held in Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina. Michael Campbell held off a charging Tiger Woods to secure his only Major title by two shots in the final round. Woods, who had been pursuing his tenth Major, revitalized from a poor start and pulled off four birdies in the last nine holes to protect the second spot with a matching 69.

Despite a stellar performance, Woods came short. Following his defeat, the now 15-time Major winner wasn’t in the best mood. The winner of the 2005 US Open winner Michael Campbell shared what happened after the conclusive round.

Tiger Woods had only two words for his opponent

Following his maiden Major win, Campbell was in the locker room washing his hands, processing the big win in his mind. A few seconds later, Woods, who had been in the toilet in the back all this while, appears next to Campbell in the locker room.

Despite both stars knowing each other very well, nothing much was said among them. Campbell said, “Nothing was said as we both stood there in front of a big mirror. It was pretty intense. Then he walked away without a word, which I thought was a bit strange given that we knew each other reasonably well”.

After walking out of the locker room, Campbell reveals Woods did return back and gave him his props by saying, “Well done”. Though some may label Tiger Woods’ behavior as unsportsmanlike, Michael Campbell did understand Tiger needed some time to take in his loss. Campbell said, “He had just needed a little bit of time to get over the loss of a battle he had been expected to win. I understood that”.

It isn’t very common for Woods to display his frustration. However having won the previous Major that year, the Masters, Tiger Woods would have gone on to win back to back Majors. Moreover, he went on to win the Open Championship later that year, which would have resulted in three consecutive Majors in a single year. Nonetheless, the 15-time Major winner is familiar with a grand slam of titles.
