Woods is ready to participate in the 150th anniversary of the Open Championship taking place at the “Home of Golf”, St. Andrews. The 3-time Open Champion has mentioned earlier that this could be his last time playing professional golf at the legendary British course.

During the press conference of The Open Championship, Woods was asked a combination of questions. The PGA Tour golfer was asked about his love for the history of golf and what his perception is of GenX who play golf.

Tiger Woods and his thoughts on young golf fans

The reporter stated that not many young golf fans could talk about anything golf before Woods started playing. However, the 46-year-old quickly rejected this impression. Woods believes that thanks to mobile phones, searching about history will be a breeze, unlike the old days when one had to go to the library to know who won which Major.

Woods then talked about the rich influence of the history of golf in his life. He said, “The history of the game is certainly something that I’ve taken to heart. I think it’s a very important part of understanding the development of our game, where we’ve come from, especially for me, for a person who’s had to struggle at times for admittance into clubhouses or onto golf courses.”

However, the 15-time Major champion also has respect for the advancement of the sport. Woods said, “But you have to appreciate everything about this game, how it’s developed, and the people who have paved the way to allow us to play in these events, who created the energy behind it.

It’s great to see Tiger Woods considering what the young generation of golf fans think about the game.

Woods remembers golf legends

While talking about young kids, Woods then got nostalgic mentioning legends like Arnold Palmer and Bob Charles who he had the opportunity to watch on T.V. thanks to technology.

The Hall of Famer said, “The first time golf was ever on TV was Arnold Palmer making a birdie-birdie finish to win. What he did for our sport TV-wise was incredible. Then I came along right when the Internet hit, so that took it to another level.”

He then recalled the time when he saw New Zealand golfing legend Bob Charles win his first and only Open Championship back in 1963. Though Woods was born 12 years after Charles’ maiden win, he still managed to watch the match, again thanks to technology.

Woods said, “I saw Bob Charles out there on 18 hitting. I think he won in ’63 or something like that. Just to be able to see that in person, live, God, it was just so special. I just hope the kids appreciate that.”

Tiger Woods will play his first two rounds of The Open Championship alongside Matt Fitzpatrick and Max Homa.

Where do you think the 15-time Major Champion will finish at The Open while competing against the current generation of top golfers?
