The American team initially dominated by sweeping the first-day foursomes session 4-0, but Team Europe staged a comeback by winning eight of the next 12 points across the following sessions. With only 12 singles matches remaining on the final day, both teams had a chance to win the Cup. In the end, the U.S. and Europe each won five matches, and two matches were tied, resulting in a 14-14 overall tie. As a result, Europe retained the Solheim Cup for another year.

After intense days of competition, Team Europe has finally achieved a remarkable three-peat, thus successfully retaining the trophy on their home turf. The pivotal moment arrived when Spaniard Carlota Ciganda secured a crucial victory against Nelly Korda during her singles match. The LPGA cover girl was the favorite to secure a point for her team, but an inspiring performance from the home girl contributed to a scoreline of 14-14 to conclude the Solheim Cup in a stalemate.

The Spaniard’s remarkable play included back-to-back wins on holes 16 and 17, accentuated by a clear shot on the par-3 penultimate hole. Her win, with a 2-up score, secured the 14th point, assuring that the Cup would remain in Europe.

The final day featured an intense round, with Meghan Kang and Linn Grant starting the matches. The closely contested game culminated with Lexi Thompson’s victory against Emily Pedersen, ending the tournament, even though Europe had already retained the Cup.

The match ended with an overall tie score of 14-14, showcasing the closely matched skills and determination of both teams. Europe’s triumph in retaining the trophy adds another chapter to the Solheim Cup’s history, highlighting the thrilling nature of this prestigious golfing event.

Highlights from the Sunday singles matches

The singles match began with Megan Khang (USA) narrowly defeating Linn Grant (Europe), winning 1-up in a closely contested match. Following this, Danielle Kang (USA) and Charley Hull (Europe) played a round in which Kang dominated her game against an injured Charley Hull, securing a 4-and-2 win.

Anna Nordqvist (Europe) beat Jennifer Kupcho (USA) with a score of 2 and 1, adding a vital point for Team Europe. This game was followed by Andrea Lee (USA) and Georgia Hall (Europe), who tied their match in a close contest with few birdies.

American player Angel Yin won against Celine Boutier with a score of 2 and 1, in a match featuring multiple lead changes. The next game was a match between Lilia Vu and Madelene Sargstrom, where Vu defeated Sagstrom with a convincing score of 4 and 3.

Cheyenne Knight (USA) and Gemma Dryburgh (Europe) ended their match in a tie, the second tie of the day. Caroline Hedwall (Europe) came from behind to beat Ally Ewing (USA) by 2 up, bringing back hope for Team Europe.

Maja Stark secured a 2-and-1 triumph over Allisen Corpuz, tying the overall match at 13-13. Carlota Ciganda, that star of today’s match, beat Nelly Korda with a score of 2 up, securing the 14th point for Europe.

Subsequently, Lexi Thompson ended the match by defeating Emily Pedersen with a score of 2 and 1.
