Tiger Woods is making his comeback at the Hero World Challenge after seven months of prolonged hiatus due to his surgery and recovery break. Before his play at Albany, Woods sat for his first press conference after the 2023 Masters. Fans and the entire golf community were intrigued to know updates regarding his health, his thoughts on the merger, his caddie, and other burning questions.

The G.O.A.T. answered all the questions but also dropped a few unexpected truth bombs about a few additional matters. He talked about his upcoming schedule for the 2024 season, his reaction to Rory McIlroy leaving the Player Advisory Council, and lastly, if he still trusts Jay Monahan as the supervisor of the PGA Tour.

1. What’s next for Woods?: While answering the question about his schedule for the upcoming 2024 season, the 15x major champion shared a “realistic” update. Sharing the related update, he said, “I think that this scenario would be maybe a tournament per month. I think that’s realistic.”

He further added that he would probably start with the Genesis Invitational in February. He will then move to The PLAYER while playing another event. Woods finds that his return at the Hero World Championship is “a big step in that (playing actively on events) direction.”

2. Woods on Rory McIlroy’s departure from the PGA Tour Policy Board: The Northern Irishman has been a member of the Players Advisory Board since 2021 until recently when he resigned. On the other hand, the golf great was appointed to the board after the LIV Golf and PGA Tour merger was announced. The golfers wanted to be a part of the magnanimous decision.

Speaking about McIlroy’s resignation, Woods said, “We’ve all disappointed that Rory decided to move off the board.” However, he remarked that “he totally understands why Rory made that decision.”

3. Does Woods trust Jay Monahan?: The golfer was asked if, after all the recent delays and the merger shocker, he still has faith left in Jay Monahan as the head of the PGA Tour. The 5X Masters champion explained, “I do have faith in him. That’s why I came on the board.”

Although the merger decision was abrupt, Woods believed, “But what happened before can’t happen again.” The Tour has not yet come to a conclusion on the merger. The deadline for the merger was set for December 31st. However, it does not seem to be closed anytime soon.
