Have fans already lost interest in TGL even before the inauguration of the tournament? Tiger Woods & Rory McIlroy’s Tomorrow’s Golf League has been under the radar ever since it was initially announced a few years ago.

Fans were not particularly in favor of watching indoor golf. However, over time, TGL has been able to win over its audience after sharing glimpses of the arena and the entire setup. They have slowly been able to build up the excitement back again.

However, Woods & McIlroy have faced a lot of obstacles along the way. Most of them have come to the surface in the past few months. So here are 3 major mishaps that the TGL has already suffered even before it was launched.

Exuberant ticket prices

Back in October 2024, as TGL was getting closer to launch, they released the ticket prices for watching the event directly from the arena at the SoFi Center. To the surprise of the fans, the cost per person for every round was announced to be $160. Fans were shocked to learn how costly it can be to watch indoor golf as comparisons were drawn to other events. For example, the Masters Tournament charges about $140 per round. The Open Championship in the UK started at a price range of $110 to $120. Even LIV Golf UK had a reasonable price of $32 – $35.

Comparing the full day of golf action to a two-hour TGL game seemed preposterous to the fans. As reported by the Mirror, most fans held the opinion that anything above $40 seemed unnecessary and 4 times that is quite ridiculous.

Mediocre merchandise

A few hours ago, TGL released images of one of their merchandise, the TGL branded t-shirt. It was a basic black T-shirt with the logo and SoFi printed on it in white, while also showing a golfer celebrating with a club in their hand. The lack of effort put into designing exclusive merch for the inaugural season of TGL seemed quite offputting for the fans. As shared by @UsedGolfFacts, they also added a caption, “New “Thank God for LIV” merch is 🔥,” taunting Tiger Woods & Rory McIlroy‘s project for the mediocre products.

Only a few days before the official first match of TGL is about to begin, Tiger Woods & Rory McIlroy were hit with another controversy. At first, it seemed that the first few rounds were going to sell out looking at the ticket sales. However, reports had emerged stating that TGL was hiring actors to show up in the first few matches. In fact, they also suggested that potential candidates were given about $150 – $250 per event. A TGL spokesperson denied there is any truth behind this issue.

However, once it caught the attention of the fans, they had a lot to say about Tiger Woods & TGL. Many of them also stated that they would believe the media over any representative of TGL ever. In general, fans believed that no one in their right mind would consider visiting the event unless they were in some way connected with the sport or affluent.

Apart from these, there were also a few other issues with fans getting their confirmed seats swapped, Rickie Fowler‘s lack of confidence about it, and the arena not being ready for action a couple of weeks before the first match. But the 3 mentioned were the most controversial ones to bring to light. It will be interesting to see how it affects the first season of TGL.
