There seems no end to the PGA Tour and PIF merger. Since the June 06 framework announcement, the two parties have been working towards the finalization, however, there have been no results. Amidst that, the PGA Tour and PIF-backed LIV Golf have started preparing for their 2025 season, hinting that the merger may not be finalized even next year.
And now PGA Tour’s strategic alliance partner, DP World Tour, has also announced its 2025 schedule. Amidst the delayed merger, these are three takeaways from the European league’s 2025 announcement.
1. DP World Tour skips big events, one where LIV golfers played

The DP World Tour will be moving around a minimum of 26 countries and has announced 42 tournaments in total. However, two events are missing from the schedule which were played in the 2024 season. The historic Porsche European Open, which has been on the DP World Tour sporadically since 1978, will not be played in 2025.
Additionally, the one event where Spanish LIV Golf pros Jon Rahm, David Puig, and Eugenio Chacarera has also been scraped from the 2025 schedule. Instead, two other events have been added. It might be a coincidence that one of the events that LIV Golf pros played on the home soil will be removed, but who knows the real reason behind it?
2. DP World Tour onboard two historic events
After removing the Andalucia Masters and the European Open, the DP World Tour added the Turkish Open and the Austrian Alpine Open back to the European Swing. The Turkish Open is making a comeback after eight years, it was one of the booming events for the DP World Tour.

Is the DP World Tour's snub of LIV Golf events a bold move or a missed opportunity?

It was played between 2013 and 2019 and in 2025 will be played at Regnum Carya Golf & Spa Resort from May 8-11. On the other hand, the Austrian Alpine Open is making a return after 2021 at Gut Altentann Golf Club from May 29 – June 1. It was inaugurated in 1990, and Bernhard Langer was its first winner.
3. The European league hits record prize purse
The 2024 season was the year where the prize purse on the PGA Tour, for the majors and the DP World, increased. The European circuit hit the record prize purse of $148.5 million courtesy of its alliance with the PGA Tour. Now for the 2025 season, the European circuit has hit another benchmark amount. The Tour announced that a record purse for its 42 events will be $153 million, excluding the four major championships.

There has been a $4.5 million increase in the total purse. However, it could have been more if the DP World Tour accepted LIV Golf’s offer. As the European League sanctioned fines on all the LIV Golf defectors, to pay all of that and more, the PIF-backed circuit offered $6.5 million for the purses and more if it was needed. But the DP World Tour rejected that and noted that its priority was the PGA Tour and their partnership.
Other notable changes are that with the Ryder Cup, the DP World Tour has added another Team Cup in Abu Dhabi. The prize purse for many events has not been decided yet but in a few days, the DP World Tour will certainly unveil that as well.
