Rory McIlroy is leading in the final round of THE PLAYERS Championship 2025! The Irishman kicked off the day with an excellent birdie on the 4-par 1st hole. He followed that up with an even more amazing eagle in the par 5 2nd hole. Since then, apart from a minor hiccup on the 7th, McIlroy has been absolutely brilliant throughout the day. And only a few moments ago, a 270-yard drive on the 12th to hit the fairway was when it happened!

As the weather gods had warned us, TPC Sawgrass was under rain. McIlroy had a 1-stroke lead against the field with a 4-under 45. Interestingly, this is not the first time rain has interrupted play at TPC Sawgrass. And fans have always criticized Jay Monahan & Co. for that.

@PGATOURComms shared the weather report from Florida on X. They tweeted, “Play was suspended at THE PLAYERS Championship at 1:15 p.m. due to lightning in the area.” The same was communicated by @Underdog__Golf as well, as they tweeted, “Weather alert: Play suspended at The Players in Round 4 due to inclement weather.”

Only a few minutes later, @THEPLAYERS also delivered an update regarding the disruption. They tweeted, “PGA TOUR officials are closely monitoring the weather and play is expected to resume later this afternoon. Updates regarding resumption of play and gate reopening times will be shared via THE PLAYERS Championship social channels and website.” Seems that play might resume later today.

However, this still welcomed a barrage of responses from frustrated fans. Let’s see what they had to say.

What’s your perspective on:

Does Mother Nature have it out for Rory McIlroy, or is TPC Sawgrass just cursed with rain?

Fans critique PGA Tour after Rory McIlroy’s triumph gets delayed

Watching Rory McIlroy’s display of sublime strokeplay had pumped the fans up. Unfortunately, the disappointing delay made one of them comment, “Mother Nature hates Rory.” While nature might not have a personal grudge against McIlroy, the coincidence of the entire situation does indicate otherwise.

McIlroy’s amazing form was spotted by many fans. Hence, not being able to see him lift the title today has disappointed quite a few in the community. One of the fans pointed out, “Rory was on fire, unlucky.” Luck might not be in favor of McIlroy today, but his Irish fortune might be pushing him to win THE PLAYERS Championship 2025 on St. Patrick’s Day on Monday.

Another fan was more concerned about the challenges the Irishman would face due to the delay. They commented, “That s**ks for Rory! Bhatia, Walker, Spaun will make things tough.” Giving Akshay Bhatia, Danny Walker, and J.J. Spaun time to rethink their approach will be disadvantageous for Rory McIlroy. Hopefully, the round can be concluded on Sunday.

Unsurprisingly, one fan’s comment shows how it’s not only a problem for McIlroy. They said, “Bummer gonna disrupt alot of the Players doing well so far 🥺.” That’s true, considering the likes of Tom Hoge, Akshay Bhatia, and Danny Walker were also in good touch. All of them have a shot at winning THE PLAYERS Championship, just like Rory McIlroy.

Interestingly, one fan believes that the delay actually helps McIlroy. Their comment read, “Just another way to help Rory win so it boosts the ratings moving forward.” Apparently, the disruption is only a propaganda by Jay Monahan & the PGA Tour to get better ratings, according to the fan. Frankly, we wouldn’t put our money on it.

Do you think Rory McIlroy might lose momentum and end up losing THE PLAYERS Championship 2025 due to the disruption? Let us know in the comments section.
