Do you think there is something like “rotten luck” in golf? While answers may vary, Australian golfer Jeffrey Guan is certainly feeling the impact. The 20-year-old, who only began his career on the PGA Tour about a week ago, recently faced an unfortunate accident that could jeopardize his future.
It happened recently at the NSW Open Golf Regional Qualifying Series at Catalina Club in Batemans Bay. Jeff Guan played his first PGA Tour event at the Procore Championship last week where although he missed the cut. He is also considered one of Australia’s best young golfers. He suffered serious facial injuries after being struck by a shot from one of his Pro-AM partners during the tournament. The paramedics ran into the scene as fast as they could and did some first aid on the course. Following that, they shifted him to Moruya Hospital for scans. Just a few hours ago, Jeff Guan was airlifted to Canberra to be assessed by an eye specialist.
Paul Davis, Guan’s longtime coach, and mentor is also shaken, and worried. He spoke to Australian Golf Digest, and said, “Obviously there are fears he may lose some vision but we won’t know the full extent until he goes to Sydney for further assessment. It’s truly awful … this was actually the first pro-am Jeff has ever played in. It’s just the worst possible news after such an amazing week in California.”
