Many in the golf world are currently on the edge of their seats as the fifth event of the FedEx Fall season is currently underway in Mexico. The World Wide Technology Championship saw the players put up a great performance during the third round that took place on Saturday. However, all eyes were on a certain professional in the field of golfers.
The PGA Tour pro was able to keep himself in the run in a bid to clinch the title of champion with an amazing showcase of skills. However, the $1.47 million cut of the prize money or the trophy were the last things on his mind as the golfer expressed the true intentions that carried him forward during the event, nothing short of a heartwarming one at that!

PGA Tour Pro shares his mindset
Erik Van Rooyen has managed to place himself at the 3rd spot on the leaderboard after registering scores of 68(-4), 64(-8), and 66(-6) on the first three days, respectively. Moreover, currently in the 125th position on the FedEx Cup rankings, he is all set to be fully exempt for the 2024 season if he finishes strong this week.
In an interview after the third round, the golfer was seen mentioning how “it would mean everything” to him if he could place at the top of the standings for the tournament. However, adding to his confession, the South African divulged how he has a friend back home “that’s really sick,” all the while expressing how he just wants to go see him.
The professional was spotted holding back his tears as he continued on with his revelation. The 33-year-old pointed out how he was “125, going into this week,” on the FedEx standings. And so, the 1X PGA Tour winner conveyed how he just wanted “to get his job done tomorrow and just take care of things” after which he could go meet his sick “mate.”
Entering the week, @FredVR_ was No. 125 in the #FedExCup Fall, directly on the line to be fully exempt for 2024.

However, he would be finding himself against a tough group of players as he aims to propel himself to the first spot. But what’s more, Rooyen would need to make quick work of the course that would be seeing its first PGA Tour event being played on it, the course is designed by none other than Tiger Woods himself!

Tiger Woods and his El Cardonal golf course
The layout in Mexico is the first course that the legend of the game has designed after a series of failed projects in places, including Dubai, Mexico, and North Carolina. Situated along the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas, it is a part of the Diamante Resort.

Although many golfers like Michael Kim had a lot to say about the greens, it would indubitably, with its hilly terrain, prove to be a stiff challenge for the field. Moreover, the wind from the Pacific would turn out to be a hurdle of sorts for the professionals. In conclusion, one needs to be on their toes if they are to excel in a course.
