The 2023 Solheim Cup is just a breath away as it prepares to spread across Spanish greens on September 22. All eyes are set on star players like Nelly Korda, Charley Hull, and others on both the European and American sides as the anticipation for who will take the cup home rises.
Hence, amid this, it is not out of the blue to witness the air across varied domains turn thick with questions surrounding this coveted title. Following this cue, featuring the LPGA players, a veteran golfer came forth to present a set of shrewd comments. The American professional couldn’t help but make a “little deeper” comparison of the game at her time and now.

The recent podcast on the channel The Thing About Golf touched on various topics that don’t often get highlighted from the mouths of veteran players. Hosted by John Huggan, 17-time LPGA Tour winner Dottie Pepper, in her usual candid manner, answered all the questions quite earnestly.
With one specific query about the current LPGA players being better than the preceding ones, Pepper immediately responded with a complete disagreement. She commented, “I think the quality of play is a little deeper, but they’re not better.” Posing the rhetorical question of whether she considers the top to be the best, her reaction was a strong negation of the same.
This was considered to be a clear jab at the top-ranked players of current times under the LPGA. She reiterated how the “talent pool” had gotten deeper without any progress from the players in comparison to those who came in earlier decades. She claimed for others of her time to host a similar opinion regarding the playing LPGA stars.
The American golfer did not exactly stop there, next commenting on the scores. She stated that they are not much better than the former players; just the fact that the number of participants has increased makes it so believable. The golfer further added how the winners have subsequently increased, hence depicting a biased record. With that, she even expressed her dismay at a certain setup by the LPGA bringing out “forced equity.”

In the next question, Pepper was asked about the way the course is kept differently for female golfers in order to maintain the scores within reasonable parameters. The professional, rather straightforwardly, commented, “The women run is different, sort of.” She expressed a constant factor playing on the minds of the female stars.

Highlighting the reason for viewership, Pepper revealed that female golfers constantly measure this factor, pointing toward their high quality of display, the low scores put forth, or the fame attached to their names. Yet, the point she liked least about the LPGA remains “forced equity.”
Arguably, she revealed that the committee has always kept up this rule of having the golf course set in such a manner that allows each golf star to reach one of the par fives every day. However, the professional did not divulge any facts or comments from the officials backing her statement.
