Is Scottie Scheffler's fiery attitude the secret to his success or a ticking time bomb?

Scottie Scheffler is known to be an exceptionally calm person. But is that truly the case? Well, when it comes to any game being played, be it on or off the course, the World No. 1 ensures he is not on the losing end. And, well, he can go to any extent to avoid that. When paired with his long-time best friend Sam Burns, the pair indeed get psychotic. “Scotty and Sam are like psychotic competitors, right? Like, even I would say Scotty more so than at that point.”

This is what Smilie Kauffman said as he narrated the incident. Ted Scott, Scheffler’s long-time caddie and friend, does not seem to deny this side of the pro players. While the American golfer was arrested at Valhalla, ahead of the second round, Ted Scott had given up any hope of golf being played. But Scottie Scheffler did not give up.

In a recent YouTube video, posted by Golf’s Subpar on their official page, Ted Scott was in conversation with the two hosts. He was talking about how amazing a year Scheffler has had in 2024. As the conversation proceeded, they discussed what happened at the PGA Championship. It was then that Scott stated that even when he was in jail, the World No. 1 was out there stretching and getting prepared for the game.

That’s how competitive he is. To prove his point, he narrated a story from the past. During one of the Byron Nelson Championships, Sam Burns and Scottie Scheffler were playing pool volleyball at Scheffler’s house. Ted Scott was also there, and they made up some rules because they needed to make the pool smaller, and it was already a two-on-two game.

While playing, Burns ended up hitting the ball a little too hard, and it went over Scheffler and Scott’s heads, landing in the gray area. Scottie Scheffler called it out, but Burns would not agree at all. “And they start arguing and then they start throwing the ball at each other and then diving on each other,” said Ted Scott.

This has always been the dynamic between Sam Burns and Scottie Scheffler. “Their best friends and breaking them up going these guys are crazy,” added Ted Scott. The competitive fight between them is always ignited, whether it’s a golf tournament or a random volleyball game.

Sam Burns confessed Scottie Scheffler wanted to defeat him

However, he went on to state that it is not a conventional friendship where they just support each other. They have developed a friendly competition and are always looking for ways to defeat each other. “But at the same time, I can assure you, he wanted to beat me more than anybody else… and I wanted to beat him more than anybody else, and it just happened to be the two of us at the end,” added Burns.
