The regular season of the PGA Tour concluded last month as the FedEx playoffs witnessed a commanding display of skills. With that, the Pros on the Tour moved to the recently formatted FedExCup Fall. As the golfers compete at Silverado for the first event of this new eligibility layout; one cannot help but reflect back on the adjustments initiated by the league.
A prominent change was set in motion when instead of the established retention of the Tour card for the top 125 golfers, No. 71-125 will have to fight in the fall season to secure their spots in 2024 events. While not many athletes have come forth to voice their opinion regarding this shift, the twilight of the season drew out strong sentiments from 44-year-old PGA Tour. Emphasizing the change brought by LIV Golf and the recent merger, the 1-time Major winner had a lot of grievances to register.

Jimmy Walker, an American professional and 6-time PGA Tour Winner, grabbed the recent opportunity to express his dismay over the FedEx Fall. With evident displeasure toward the schedule and the updated rulings, Walker came forth with some strong statements to confront the Tour he plays for, reported Nuclrgolf on Twitter.
Ending the regular season at No.124 in the FedEx Cup standings, the golfer had expected to be met with the usual criteria of being able to keep playing privileges for the next season. However, with the update in the rulings, things don’t seem to favor the major winner. In order to retain his chance to continue playing directly, the golfer will have to put in a lot of work in his game.
Per Golfweek, the golfer confessed his distaste toward the changed target, saying, “They changed the rules. It’s been 125 forever. Then it’s like, no, it’s 50, or is it 70? It’s definitely not 125. It’s total bull***t, that’s what I think of it.” Completing the third round of the Fortinet Championship after shooting a 69, the golfer expanded how he has been working for that 124th position for the past 11 months.

Rather than getting the news of relief, he has again reached the point where he is asked to “keep playing.” While he continued to focus on the idea of giving it his all, the disappointment of the situation could be sensed in the golfer’s stance. He even revealed to Golfweek about the amount of people who have congratulated him for making it into the Top 125.
“I can’t tell you how many people texted me saying congrats on making the 125. I’m like, ‘No man, it’s different.’ I had to explain,” came the professional’s comment in lieu of the good wishes coming his way. Walker even laid emphasis on how poorly the Tour has communicated the matter of such concern to the players. Through the visible infuriation toward the change, though, came Walker’s speculation of who lies behind the updated proceedings.
LIV Golf, the reason behind the “change” for Walker
Certainly, Jimmy Walker did not hold himself back while expressing his dislike for changes adopted within the PGA Tour. Specifically, it was his reasoning behind the “lots of things change” that is noteworthy. Summoning the inception of a Saudi-backed league, the golfer said, “It’s been one way forever. LIV and the Saudis happen and a lot of things change and everybody freaks out and we sign an agreement that stops litigation.”

Elaborating on his annoyance, Walker reiterated how uncertainty surrounds everything. For the professional, the PGA Tour was trying to do everything they could to look after themselves and is “not for players.” His frustration is sourced from the fact that he had invested over 20 years of his life in the league, grinding and giving it all he has got, even making a comeback after suffering from Lyme disease in 2017.
Alas! Jimmy Walker was still met with disappointment, especially during the Fortinet Championship as the PGA Tour Commissioner didn’t even make an appearance. His presence, per golfer, would have provided ease to the minds of players like Walker.

Nevertheless, while these changes are into action, the 6-time PGA Tour winner believes there is nothing that can be done, except trying to remain in the top 125 and retain the Tour card.
