Can the fans at the TGL arena really hear that? Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s indoor league has received a lot of mixed reviews. So far, the biggest and most frequent criticism they have received is about the technology they use. The Full Swing simulator has made some questionable calculations of the trajectory of the golfer’s drives.

Despite everything, TGL is undoubtedly a major hit among the fans. On February 10, 2025, that is Presidents’ Day, fans witnessed three matches, a one-of-a-kind tripleheader. They were thrilling, the music was loud, and the cheers were even louder. Amid all the fast-paced action, an insider noticed something shocking that many television viewers might have not caught up on. How are the fans in the arena able to hear anything happening on the course?

Eamon Lynch from the Golf Today show of the Golf Channel discussed what is good and bad about TGL. During this conversation, the analyst acknowledged the success of the concept by saying “It’s not relying on star power.” Lynch explained how TGL is still getting great viewership even when stars like Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods are not playing. He further added, “It’s not relying on some kind of forced banter,” which was what the fans expected having all the golfers play in such proximity.

“The only thing that they are lacking right now is the fact that the on-site audience can’t hear the broadcast, can’t hear the players,” said Lynch who received a nod of approval from his fellow analyst. Explaining how it impacts the match, he added, “There is a disconnect between the liveliness of the audience and the liveliness of the players.” To conclude his observation, Lynch stated, “Once that is connected, then I think they have got a winner”.

The duo then continued to commend TGL’s effort to innovate in the sport and involve professional players in it. But they also agreed that Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy need to continue tweaking the league until they perfect the product.

Carving Tiger Woods’s TGL to perfection

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have figured out the big picture way before TGL began. That is the very reason the league has achieved so much success. But no concept is materialized perfectly and that is the case of TGL now. They have to work their way in figuring out how can they improve the product.

Lynch has already suggested that they need to help the fans find a connection with the players in the arena. TGL has already introduced a change to the Hammer rule a few days ago. Ever since its launch, fans have been questioning why TGL uses a towel to indicate the use of the Hammer. It would benefit them to introduce an actual object designed like a hammer instead of a real hammer. But that would help the fans connect with the rule better.

Alternatively, no one is on board with TGL continuing with Full Swing technology for their simulator. As everyone has already witnessed, it is quite inaccurate and not efficient enough for a multimillion-dollar league. Many fans have highly recommended TrackMan instead. Hopefully, Tiger Woods and Co. have considered that.
