Sources say that the decision was an outcome of a “strategic alliance” between the Norman-led league and the MENA Tour. The MENA Tour is an essential member of the Official World Golf Ranking officially based in Dubai. The tour operates events in the Middle East and North Africa as suggested by its name, MENA.

According to the alliance, the MENA Tour has pitched the LIV Golf event as one of its tournaments. But the decision about how many points each player would earn in the event is still pending. LIV Golf has also reportedly confirmed from OWGR chiefs that the players will be able to earn ranking points at the Thailand event. Although there hasn’t been an official announcement about the same yet, the league is expecting it soon.
