Can LIV Golf players earn OWGR points?

According to the latest news, LIV Golf players are expected to earn OWGR points in the league’s Thailand event. Sources say that the decision was an outcome of a “strategic alliance” between the Norman-led league and the MENA Tour. The MENA Tour is an essential member of the Official World Golf Ranking officially based in Dubai. The tour operates events in the Middle East and North Africa as suggested by its name, MENA.

According to the alliance, the MENA Tour has pitched the LIV Golf event as one of its tournaments. But the decision about how many points each player would earn in the event is still pending. LIV Golf has also reportedly confirmed from OWGR chiefs that the players will be able to earn ranking points at the Thailand event. Although there hasn’t been an official announcement about the same yet, the league is expecting it soon.

Fans react to the shocking LIV news

Fans have now started to accept the existence and functioning of the Saudi-funded league. But there are still some of them who were taking sides between the two leagues based on what the players were getting out of it. However, fans are giving all kinds of reactions to the news ever since it was shared on Twitter.

Some simply stated how “desperate” the LIV tour was in trying to get their players to access OWGR points.

While others made fun of how the players wanted to play less golf, but are concerned about earning OWGR points to qualify for majors.

Some fans even doubted the news and said that the decision had not been confirmed yet.
