Tournaments come and go, but some incidents stay with us long, even after the final putt. This year’s Presidents Cup was one such event that saw many chaotic moments. Perhaps by now you already might have the picture of Tom Kim in mind, because if not him then who? Whether it was his fiery interactions with opponents or the tensions surrounding accusations of swearing on the rival team, Kim expertly maintained the drama throughout the event.
Although the Presidents Cup was over weeks ago, Kim continues to be a topic of discussion in the golf community. Recently, during a podcast Wyndham Clark was asked to reflect on the incident when Kim accused their team of cursing at him. While that situation was resolved some time ago, with Kim apologizing for his remarks, it seems there’s still more to this story.
During his appearance on the No Laying Up Podcast, the American professional golfer shed light on what exactly happened, when Kim thought he was cursed by Team America. As it turns out, it was all a misunderstanding!

The other side of Tom Kim’s dramatic saga
For the unversed, on the second day of the Presidents Cup, Tom Kim accused the rival team, Team USA, of “cursing at them” following a minor altercation on the course. In response, Xander Schauffele defended his team’s stance by clarifying that they treated their opponents with respect and had no clue about Kim’s intention of making such accusations against them.
All this drama was soon put to an end as the South Korean golfer ultimately apologized for his allegations stating, “I didn’t mean it that way. I apologize if it came out wrongly. It was just this and this happened, but if it affected you guys so negatively, I do apologize. I didn’t mean to do it in that way.”
Fast forward to the present, the entire incident was once again raised at the NLU podcast, where the host asked Clark for his perspective. The host asked the 30-year-old golfer if Team USA actually cursed at the rival team. Well, what Clark responded next, entirely flipped the narrative. He said, “There was cussing, but it was towards our team going, LFG, let’s go, and we were all saying, I mean, we’re in the heat of battle, and we were just cheering for us.”

Clark further explained that while around 75 people were cheering for Team USA, the International Team had a crowd of about 20,000 to 30,000 behind them. As an expression of boosting their team’s morale, they were making all sorts of noises to pump up the players and give them momentum.
So, while there was indeed cursing as Clark mentioned, it was never directed at anyone and was just a way of cheering the team. Poor Kim, he became a part of all this drama, and then he even apologized but in the end, it seems there wasn’t much to apologize for. What do you think about the whole incident? Let us know below!
