The future of the Portland Classic is uncertain

The Portland Classic, a popular tournament on the LPGA calendar, might not return next year. “We’re working hard to find a title sponsor and keep it on the calendar,” said LPGA Vice President Casey Ceman, per Golf. Andrea Lee, who is currently at the top of the leaderboard and who also won the tournament in 2022, said, “A little sad. Just because I love Portland, I love this event so much.”

From tournament organizers to golfers, everyone is sad that the tournament’s future is hanging by a thread. For the first time in its history, it hasn’t had a title sponsor for two years in a row. This hasn’t happened since the tournament’s early days, from 1972 to 1977. Ever since its inception, the tournament has had a string of well-known sponsors. Ping was the first title sponsor in 1978 and supported the event until 1995. Safeway took over from 1996 to 2013, followed by Cambia Health Solutions from 2015 to 2021. With AmazingCre being the last title sponsor in 2022.
