Rainy misery at Royal Troon—Will the 2024 Open Championship be a true test of grit?

Were the winds signaling upcoming weather troubles at The Open Championship after the first day at the Royal Troon? In the opening round, competitors had to encounter different winds than the northwest and west ones that they faced during the practice days. Thursday morning, the southern winds, with a brief amalgamation of the southeast winds, made an easier front nine play into a consistent 10-15 mph headwind. Will the winds wreak havoc or will they waft the golfers towards victory?

After experiencing the wrath of the weather in many events of the PGA Tour in 2024, will the last major of the year be added to that list? How will the weather be during the Friday round?

Will the winds be woeful during the second round at Royal Troon?

As per the weather reports, the second round will start with overcast skies. However, the chances of drizzle are significantly less, as the precipitation probability is, thankfully, just 10%. The temperature is expected to stay within the range of 59F to 63F until 9 a.m. BST. During this time, winds are expected to blow at 7–12 mph. The Friday round is expected to make the competitors feel the presence of southern winds.

After 10 a.m. BST, some bright spells are expected as the sun might show up. The predictability of the precipitation is again at 10% until 1 in the afternoon. A slight increase in the temperature range is expected (63F to 66F). The wind speed can go up to 12 mph.

For the rest of the round, the sun’s presence is expected and the precipitation probability is down to under 5%. One can expect a similar temperature range of 61F to 65F during this period, with winds blowing at a similar 11–14 mph. However, strong wind gusts are expected to make the players uncomfortable at a whopping pace of 29 to 31 mph between 11:00 a.m. BST and 6 p.m. BST. If you are a die-hard golf fan and want to witness the last major of the year without facing the harsh wind gusts, you can do so on your screens.
