In a recent clip from SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio posted in the form of a reel on Instagram, golf veteran Brad Faxon discussed his opinions on the upcoming Ryder Cup and potential team selections.
The eight-time PGA Tour champion mentioned that the qualifying period for the Ryder Cup has been narrowed down to just one year, and there will be six players selected through the Captain’s pick. He argued that the logic behind this is that “the players that were playing the best should be able to play.”
Faxon highlighted Lucas Glover’s recent performance, stating that he has been playing exceptionally well. Further clarifying his stance, he said, “There is no body in the last month who has played better than Lucas Glover” with his back-to-back wins this month, first at the Wyndham Championship and then the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Faxon believes this makes him a strong contender for the Ryder Cup team.

Faxon expressed his support for Glover’s selection and suggested that not choosing him would be a mistake on the part of the Captain. He said, “If he gets left off the team even after winning two tournaments this late in the qualifying process, the system’s flawed again.” And given how the recent PGA Tour victor has risen from adversity to triumph, Faxon undoubtedly has a good point.
Golver’s battle from the putting yips to becoming a potential Ryder Cup candidate
Lucas Glover has grappled with the “putting yips” for a decade. This condition is characterized by involuntary muscle spasms and jerks during putting attempts. These haunted his golfing endeavors for the longest time. This problem emerged after Glover’s four-putt mishap during the Colonial Tournament a decade ago.

He bounced back from that low point in his game and is now winning events; this shows the resilient attitude he has as a fighter. He conquered the mental hurdle and emerged stronger from the trials of the game. His putting over the past month has been phenomenal, as have his drives.
At the Wyndham Championship, he hit over 90% of the greens in regulation, 20% higher than the Tour average. He also successfully translated all regulations into pars and birdies with an average of 1.21 putts. Moreover, his recent performance at the St. Jude event was stunning too, as he went on to rank 12th in the total strokes gained in putting across all 4 rounds!

The Ryder Cup will be played in a match-play format, and there is arguably no one better for it than a man who just won two back-to-back events. But only time will tell whether or not Glover gets to play in Rome.
