Tiger Woods has etched his name into time immemorial with his contributions and stature in golf. However, in his extensive career, he has undergone so many surgeries that he is no longer a stranger to slipping out of events. In the past two years, he has decided only to take part in the Majors, and some very selective signature events. Looks like now he will be appearing on the golfing greens sporadically. But why is it so?

Tiger Woods has been an old victim to back pains. This started back in March 2014, when he had to withdraw on the thirteenth hole during the final round of the Honda Classic. He had terrible lower back spasms. He also missed the Masters for the first time because he underwent surgery for a pinched nerve in his back. Although he hoped to get back to the games soon, 2014 made him suffer throughout.

His back has been an issue ever since and has had at least six surgeries over the years. The last one was in September this year. Woods had announced that he would undergo his sixth back surgery to repair a nerve impingement in his lower back. This is called an anterior lumbar interbody fusion. Also commonly known as ALIF. While Woods thought he would easily make a comeback, looks like fate had something else written for the 49-year-old.

According to the website, after this surgery, a person is indeed freed from back pain and they can go back to their regular activities of daily living, but they will not be pain-free. Furthermore, it also states, “Many patients can return to recreational activities such as golf, but it would be exceedingly difficult for anyone to return to professional golf due to the rigors of such a career.” So, then what does it mean for Mr. T’s 2024 season? Will he not be back?

The 2024 season has not been so great for Tiger Woods. His back was extremely sore after four rounds at the Masters, where he finished in the 60th position. Additionally, he also missed the cut at the other three Major Championships. It was at the Open Championship in Royal Troon that he had told the reporters that he would not play until the Hero World Challenge in November.

The 49-year-old also added that he will keep getting physically better. So then, when will he return next? Well, looks like the fans do not have to wait much longer. He will be seen in Albany on November 30 for the Hero World Challenge, followed by what he calls the fifth Major (PNC Championship) with his son in Ritz-Carlton.
