For the 2024 season, the designated events of the PGA Tour have changed to signature events, as have most of their formats. The PGA Tour revealed its 2024 schedule with an increased prize purse, a different format from the usual, and much leverage for the players.
In 2024, there are going to be eight signature events with an increased prize pool, while some might even have a no-cut format. The Sentry (formerly known as the Sentry Tournament of Champions) is one of the signature events of the PGA Tour, but does it maintain a no-cut?

The Sentry will commence on the 4th of January and end on the 7th of January. The event is one of the signature events and will have the Top 50 from the 2023 FedExCup Standings and the past champions from PGA Tour events (excluding Jon Rahm).
Unlike the traditional 36-hole cut, the PGA Tour observes that The Sentry is one of the five signature events that will not have a cut. Fortunately, no player will be out in two days. Moreover, the prize money of $20 million will be distributed equally to all 59 players as per their position on the leaderboard. The winner of the event will get $3.6 million and 700 FedExCup points.
The 59 players’ field has been revealed by the PGA Tour, and it includes some of the highest-ranked and most talented individuals, like world no. 1 Scottie Scheffler, 6x PGA Tour winner Viktor Hovland, Rookie of the Year nominee Ludvig Aberg, Eric Cole, and many others. These players will battle it out against each other for four days. Will any of them face disappointment and leave after 2 days?
The other four signature events with no cut are the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, RBC Heritage, Wells Fargo Championship, and the Travelers Championship. The events with limited field and preserving the top 50 and ties cut are the Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational, and the Memorial Tournament. With the opening drive commencing in Hawaii, one top player from the PGA Tour is missing the seasonal inaugural event.
4x major champion is missing The Sentry
After missing the 2023 edition of The Sentry, the Northern Irish golfer, Rory McIlroy, is set to miss another edition of the prestigious event. When asked about his 2024 schedule and whether he will play at The Sentry, he said, “I’m not a huge Hawaii guy, so I’ll probably not go to Hawaii.”
After missing the first two events, McIlroy will make his first appearance at the PGA Tour 2024 schedule with AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Meanwhile, he will be playing at the DP World Tour’s International Swing’s Dubai Invitational and the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January.
Except for McIlroy and Rahm, the field is loaded with talented golfers and promises a tough and action-packed week for the inaugural event of 2024. Are you ready to witness the first winner of the PGA Tour’s 2024 season?
