The Sentry will be hosted at the Plantation Course in Maui, Hawaii. The heralded and historical event does not only benefit the golfers playing but also the various beneficiaries and charities partnered with Sentry Insurance and the PGA Tour since 1999.
Over 25 years, the Sentry has helped millions of people, aided various Maui organizations, helped in teaching Junior golf, and worked with local organizations to preserve the rich culture of the island. Before the PGA Tour reaches the Island again, let’s explore the charities associated with the event.
Every year the Sentry aids more than a dozen charities

In the last 25 years, The Sentry has raised more than $8 million for various charities on the Island and also provides scholarships to many students. In 2023, the fund raised was a record $694,705, $50,000 more than 2022’s raised funds. Sentry Insurance took the title sponsorship in 1999 and since then the event has found the Plantation Course as its home.
The Sentry is associated with mainly seven designated beneficiaries. Moreover, the tournament also donates to other non-profit organizations as well. In 2023, it donated to the following seven beneficiaries:
- Boy Scouts of America: Provides scouting program to youth and adults.
- Friends of the Children’s Justice Centre: assist the various needs of abused and neglected children
- Hale Makua Health Services: Provides health care for older adults.
- J. Walter Cameron Center: Gives affordable spaces to other NPOs.
- Ka Lima O Maui: offers rehabilitation programs for disabled and economically challenged adults.
- Lahainaluna High School Foundation: Preserves the rich history of Hawaii’s culture and traditions.
- Lahainaluna Jr. Golf: Promotes golf to youth underprivileged youth.
Additionally, the nonprofit organizations that got aid from the tournament are Maui Preparatory Academy, University of Hawaii-Maui College, Maui Junior Golf, Maui Health Foundation, Whale Trust, Hui O Wa’a Kaulua, Hawaii State Jr. Golf Association, Imua Family Services, Kumulani Chapel, Maui United Way, Maui Striker Soccer Club, and First Tee of Maui.

The Sentry also donated $25,000 to the students on scholarships at Maui Public High School, who attended the affiliated Community Colleges and were students at the University of Hawaii. As of 2023, there are 11 students on scholarship. Other than this, a part of the donation was also sent to the Pu’u Kukui Watershed Preserve, which helps the local community work better for the environment of Maui.

Moreover, courtesy of the late wife of Chris Berman (Sports commentator for The Sentry), the tournament also contributes a portion of the fund to the Literacy Volunteers of Greater Waterbury in Connecticut, as she was a native and it was her favorite charity.

In totality, there were more than a dozen charities that got the benefits from the tournament in 2023, with the 2024 edition in only three days, many other organizations may join the event. The tournament helps to preserve and enrich the Hawaiian culture through the donation. In doing so, it has made more than $8.5 million in donations. The Sentry will start on 4th January with 59 players field. It is the first no-cut, limited-field event of the PGA Tour in 2024 schedule.
