With the first event of 2025, many prominent names will look to take up the lead ahead of the season. One of them is Collin Morikawa, for whom the last season wasn’t really the best, despite putting it in all. Morikawa came close to victory but fell short twice in 2024. He was runner-up at the Tour Championship and The Memorial Tournament. Along with this, he finished in the top 10 eight times. He will look to do much better in Hawaii, and his arsenal will come in handy. Let us see what he is carrying with him to the Kapalua Plantation Course.

Morikawa is grouped with Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay for the Sentry’s first two days. The first thing in his bag is the TaylorMade Qi35 LS driver with a 9-degree loft. To make it just perfect for his playing style, he is using a Diamana D+ Limited 60 TX shaft. The driver is yet to be launched, but LS in the name showcases that it is focused on offering a low spin by covering a greater distance. The new driver is the only change in Morikawa’s bag as of now.

After the tee shot, he carries the TaylorMade SIM 3-wood, with a 14-degree loft with a Diamana D+ Limited 80 TX shaft. Along with it, he prefers the Qi10 5-wood with an 18-degree loft. Many professionals prefer the Qi10 series because of its unmatched abilities. “I have a 5-wood, the Qi10, just the core model. I’ve had this trusty SIM 3-wood in for a long time, so that’s been in the bag for a while,” said the golfer.

The fairway wood is famous for its consistency and forgiveness to make sure that golfers attain the distance without entering the rough or bunkers. Coming at a price of roughly $300-$400 is a great value for its offerings.

Further in the bag, he carries TaylorMade P series irons. Morikawa uses irons worth $1400. His choice is P.770, P.7CB 5-6 iron, and P.730 7-PW. He pairs his irons with Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100. These fresh design irons are great for spin and launch with their improved turf interaction. Actually, Rory McIlroy kind of inspired his iron choices

“The 4-iron has ‘Proto,’ I think, because I started using this iron around Hilton Head this year. I saw Rory, I think, got it a tournament or two before, and I was just curious because I was using the TaylorMade P770. I loved it. The P770 launches even higher, and for me, the higher the better, especially with the long iron. But it was just a little bit too hot. Then when Rory had it, I started asking questions. This was before I think they even had full sets. So I think that’s why it says Proto, and honestly, I don’t want to get rid of it, because I kind of like it saying Proto instead of P7CB. But at this point, it’s only been in the bag for two-and-a-half to three months now, so it’s not at its point where I’m going to take it out,” said Morikawa to the PGA Tour.

Collin Morikawa’s pick for the final shots

To close the distance to the hole, the 27-year-old uses the TaylorMade Milled Grind 4 50 degrees SB, 56 degrees LB, and 60 degrees TW. He pairs his wedges with Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400. The laser-etched spin thread on the wedges is great for ball trajectory and spin at the green after impact. Coming at $180 each, it offers the perfect combination for setting the ball for the last shot.

To finish the hole, he uses the “simple” TaylorMade TP Soto putter, which offers maximum consistency with the traditional design and plenty of customization options. He has had it for a long time now. The $325 putter is great for every golfer, with its compatibility in each condition. While making it all come as planned, he prefers the TaylorMade TP5 ball retailing for $55. His come with a twist though, paying an homage.

“Then the golf ball. I play a TP5x golf ball, but it’s a little different symbol. Five is my favorite number … we’ve added a blue jersey number to kind of represent my Dodgers back at home. It’s kind of nice. It’s simple, it’s clean. Then normally I mark it with a blue Sharpie right through the TaylorMade, both sides … but what I noticed with the TP5x ball is that it flew a little bit better. It launched a little bit higher – for me, if I can launch it just a tick higher, it’s going to be easier to stop into greens,” revealed Morikawa.

With just one change to the bag, i.e., the driver, can he make the result change from the 2024 season? Or will he have to make further changes in his bag? What are your thoughts about Collin Morikawa’s WITB? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
