The 2025 season of the PGA Tour is just around the corner. This year saw a lot of triumphant performances from some of the best American Tour stars. The likes of Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele dominated the course and won multiple titles this year. While the former had 7 victories in the season including the Masters Tournament, the latter was seen lifting two majors with his excellent strokeplay.

However, they will face tough competition in 2025 from the likes of Rory McIlroy, rising star; Nick Dunlap, and many other amazing pros. But how will they fair throughout the season? Fans will get a glimpse of what to expect in 2025 at next week’s season-opening event.

But who are qualified to participate in The Sentry on January 2, 2025? Well, considering the Tournament of Champions, the event has simple criteria that make it easy for them to decide whom to pick for participation. And all of it depends on the best players from the previous season.

To qualify for The Sentry, the PGA Tour players need to make it to the top 50 rank in the FedEx Cup leaderboard of the previous season. This does not include the FedEx Cup Fall leaderboard winners. This is probably the easiest route to get into the first event of the season.

The more challenging route for a pro to qualify for The Sentry is their individual tournament performance in 2024. More specifically, pros who have won a PGA Tour event in the 2024 season will automatically qualify for The Sentry of the next season.

According to the official website of The Sentry, this is great news for 65 professional golfers on the PGA Tour who have made it to the season-opening event already. However, some crowd favorites like Rickie Fowler, Bryson DeChambeau, and more cannot make it to the tournament.

Rickie Fowler has had an average year, finishing above 100 on the FedEx Cup leaderboard and not being able to win a single event in the entire 2024 season. Hence, he is not eligible to be a part of the Tournament of Champions.

Bryson DeChambeau has not been permitted to play in The Sentry despite winning the 2024 U.S. Open because it is a PGA Tour signature event. Considering DeChambeau has joined LIV Golf, he has not been allowed to play in the event since 2022.

What’s your perspective on:

Is the PGA Tour's exclusion of Bryson DeChambeau from The Sentry justified or overly harsh?

Players qualified for The Sentry

Some of the pros mentioned in the entry list might not come as a surprise to the fans. The likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg, Viktor Hovland, and many more top-ranked golfers have already secured their place. However, an exciting talent who might surprise the fans is Nick Dunlap, who has come off his amazing rookie year on the PGA Tour. Jake Knapp is another player who showed his brilliant skills as he won the Grant Thornton Invitational a few days ago with his partner and LPGA Tour star; Patty Tavatanakit. He too is qualified for The Sentry 2025.

Matt McCarty also had his partial rookie season in 2024 and he was already able to manage 1 victory at the Black Desert Championship back in October. After joining the Tour in 2020, Rafael Campos has been unable to achieve a single title victory in 4 years. However, that changed at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship in November, where he finally won his first title. Campos would be eager to carry on with his form and surprise the fans in The Sentry 2025.
